You can often just Google Bladeforums plus the thread title parts you can see in the url and get the link. For this one I tried https://www.google.com/search?q=bla...el&oq=bladeforums+opinions+on+hs+1+honesteel& and it was the first result.


I think Stacy E. Apelt - Bladesmith Stacy E. Apelt - Bladesmith (?) has a guide to do it also, maybe in the knifemakers section

Thanks kreole. It seems the thread still exists but the web address has completely changed. Enlisting Google's help is a good tip to find these for sure. It's still unfortunate that all the old links remain broken though.

now I can just reformat old links too and see if they work.
 
It's also strange that when I searched "HS-1" (the first thing I did) that the results came back empty. If thread exists why didn't search find it?

edit: search did find the thread using the term "honesteel". I should have tried that too.

Interesting. The original thread "Opinions on the HS-1 Honesteel?" by Codger_64 Codger_64 was posted on Oct 16, 2005, When I used the search feature here for "honesteel" the search results included two posts (Sep 3, 2016, and Nov 19, 2016) from that thread even though "honesteel" is contained in earlier posts. I also tried "HS-1" without results. "HS-1" appears in earlier posts but not the later ones.
