Not really a new idea but seems to be getting good press....maybe those vintage sledges will be more handy after all! ;) Any opinions?

Saw those last year and thought they were pricey. Great item for the home owner and casual user.
Two things come to mind
1. Will a guy with 20 or 30 axes, hatchets and mauls use one?
2. Others would have a buddy weld up something more robust.

Just my two cents!

Poor man's version:

1) Take a small log and chisel out a square recess in the top.

2) Put an old splitting wedge and put it in the recess, edge up.

My first thought was that it's limited to the size of log it will handle but I wouldn't be surprised if the average log size is smaller than it's ever been these days.
