Well, I'm at 19 and need to cut back as I'm low on discretionary funds. But I can make one good purchase before taking a break from buying and spending more time with the ones I have - sharpening, oiling, waxing, massaging, staring at, using, caressing, having dinner with, taking for long walks...

I'd like to make #20 something special. So, I'm soliciting recommendations for something I don't have that just jumps out and says, "How can you not have XXXXX????" or "You have to get a YYYYYYYY!" and figuring I'll order it rather than hoping to get one from the specials.

From listening in the Cantina, I'm thinking of Dukti (which I don't think I can order), 21" Gelbu Special or 21" Chitlangi, Pen Knife, or stylish AK (Hanuman,Garud)...

You've got the khuks covered. (Except for the perennial favorite, the BGRS villager, but those aren't always available and yours will find you when it's ready.) Go with a sword.

The Dukti is a fine choice but if one is not available, there are some other things you might like. The tarwar is simply impressive and can do excellent work out in the field. (Think of it as a machete on steroids that can double as a sword.) The Everest Katana is not really something to be using in the woods but if you ever wanted a differentially hardened, hand-forged katana-style sword for under $1000 with an excellent warranty...well, Aunt Yangdu can hook you up for a lot less than that.

A while back, I ordered an EK from the website. I am not a samurai and do not use a sword for a living; realizing that it would spend more time on the wall than on the battlefield I opted for the standard sword with the fancy scabbard because I wanted it to look nice while it was hanging there. As it turned out, both the sword and the scabbard were works of art. The sword is straight up mean and when I'm not destroying things with it, it's sitting in the nicest scabbard in my home. Well worth the money, if you ask me. The pics on the HI website don't do them justice.

Nice collection, BTW. You have a few there that make me a bit envious. I hadn't realized that we had another mako in the tank!

I love my EK:) It ranks up there with the AK bowie (my all time fav) and full size GRS. I keep mine razor sharp and with in arms reach for the event of an intruder/zombie sneak attack/pirate raid. It's sword that you can use and abuse and it just keeps coming back for more. Not a utility blade, but a hand forged piece that has every bit as much magic as any another sword. I named mine Whispering Dragons as the dragon engraving on the tsuba is two of them coming up face to face seeming to whisper things mortals were never meant to know. An awesome blade that will be a fine thing to pass from father to son or grandfather to grandson.

I agree! The sirupati is a fine, if under-appreciated khukuri. :p

Especially in its 30" incarnation...but that takes us right back to sword territory. :)

The 20" siru was my favorite for a long, long time. It took the BGRS villager and the FF to knock it out of first place.

The full-size 19-21" Chitlangi is
the most under-appreciated khuk--imho

otoh, you need to find the one that reaches out to -you-

patience

:D

I have a "stylish" AngKhola, the hanuman, and its real neat. Then you feel compelled to order a garud, though.

If I was looking to flesh out your collection, I'd go with a tarwar or a cherokee rose.

All good suggestions, but I have to absolutely agree with Dean here. You haven't fully appreciated a khukuri until you have held a 19-21" Chitlangi. Magical blades. My first and still my favorite I think. I am trying to get a horn one for my brother right now.

Good luck.

I think that will be my next one.................... :D ;)

A 21" Chitlangi would be a pretty good choice, though personally the 25" Kobra comes to mind. A different style of khukuri in a different length that isn't overly heavy and thus can be useful for out in the field.

Made the decision on #20...

Went with a 22" Chitlangi with a wood handle. Would have gone another way and waited for horn, but I figured this one would fight for that extra inch with me...

[SIGH] Then I went straight on to #21 and got a Dukti with a horn handle...

BIG HINT: When you have no willpower, ask about what's in stock one at a time. :o

So with those and the carved handled Ang Khola from today, I'm at #22. Which matches the length of #20 - 22", so it was all meant to be.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions... Can't say it made choosing easier :) , but I definitely got a lot to think about.

I certainly can't argue with those choices, but .. what's this? In the bottom of your cut I defenatly see the outline of a sirupati. Oh my goodness. It looks to be about 30 inches long

TKA - Terminal Khukuri Addiction. The afflicted see it as a blessing.

So that's where the next Dukti went to.

I won't comment on the Chitlangi but I will say that I'll be very surprised if you're not happy with a Dukti. Mine is a wonderfully balanced user that plain looks too nice to use.
