So I noticed there were some anodized standoffs available, which i've been waiting for a couple of months. While shopping, I also saw there were a bunch of pens in stock, so i figured i'd buy myself a hinderer pen, as an "attitude adjuster". Seeing pics, i tought the extreme duty pen was enormous, so the investigator would be more edc friendly. I ordered it, thinking it would be about the size of a regular "bic" pen. It just arrived today aong with both bronze and blue standoffs, and i couldnt feel the pen in the package! at first I tought they forgot it, but no, it was just waaaay smaller than I tought it would be. when I first saw it, i was a bit worried that it would be too small to comfortably write with, but in fact it is (for me) just the right size. It is incredibly compact and light, so you don't feel you have it on you. the pocket clip is PERFECT. very small, but yet solid enough. goes in and out of the pocket easily and is really low profile. The bullet tip surprised me aswell... I did not expect it to be sharp, it tought it'd be rounded off, but it really is quite sharp. I gently pushed it against some of my bones, and boy does it hurt. if you hit someone on the right spot, you can take assaillant out with a single blow, without causing them any serious harm. i'm thinking about wrist, ribs, chestbone, clavicle, forearm, knees, ...
I really like the fisher space pen, it has a nice flow to it, it is quite soft. the pen has a nice grip, but it's not too agressive for writing with
if you haven't one of the hinderer pens yet, be sure to check them out, they are a great little extra for o edc, and should anything ever happen, i'd rather defend myself with this than with a knife.

Investigator IMHO is the perfect size. Have two coming in today myself. Had two of the extreme and while an amazing pen, it just wasn't for me.

I've been toying around with the idea of picking up one of the stainless steel investigator pens. I think that you just convinced me.

I write every day with my Investigator pen and am still on the original ink cartridge.
It is my favorite pen.I have been a "penaholic" since I learned to write and that is a few years.:) As a kid....if your pen was missing - I had it!
I write with an aluminum version but have (and like) the heft of the SS.
I too have an extreme duty and carry it in my go bag (on the outside, in the PALS webbing).
Highly recommend the pen for personal use as well as a Very Cool Gift idea for anyone - no way you will hear, "Dang I already have too many of these".

I have a copper Investigator and it is my EDC pen... really like it a lot!!!

I'm hoping the ones I have coming in today don't have the ribs on the caps like I have seen in some photos. Part of why I didn't carry my Extreme was because the ribs under the clips made it hard to pull off my pocket and it was shredding my pocket where it sat. Don't really mind on my jeans, but on some of my other clothes it was an issue. I like the Investigator though too because of the size. I can just throw it in my pocket if I don't want to clip it on.

Here is the Extreme. The ribs were catching on my pockets. Would definitely prefer this bad boy in a fight though. :D

Then here are two different investigator pics. One has ribs on the cap, one doesn't. I love the look of the ribs on the cap, but would probably prefer the smooth cap for ease of pulling on and off clothing. If it was on molle or gear then I would think the ribs are a must. So, I guess I'm torn.

Perhaps it's just the Ti Investigators with cap grooves?

I think you're on to something there Pal :) Looking at the pics on the RHK site - it seems to be an attribute of the Ti pens.
I don't have any of the Ti's which also explains my Duh status when it comes to being groovey.

Totally agree on the fisher insert. I really enjoy the way they write and the grip on the investigatory is perfect.

N2K, My bronze TI just came in with the smooth cap. I noticed on Hinderer's site it says "NOW includes a smooth cap" so I'm wondering if they just changed it up at some point.

the ti pens look awesome, I've been on the fence about buying one, but 200$ was just too expensive
+ I'm happy with my alu pen :D

also, the alu version is a lot of bang for the buck! I have bought multiple pens that weren't, the plastic throwaway pens, including 3 lamy's and a cross pen. they looked nice for about a week, after that, the pocket clip started moving or bending, the paint started to come off... i don't see this pocket clip going anywhere and since it's anodized there is no issue in paint coming off! these pens cost more than the investigator

That Pen...That Knife!! I'm comin' to your House !!!

The early Investigators had machining (ribs) on the caps, RHK quickly figured out they were too aggressive and changed them so there is no machining. Those early ones are long gone but probably seen on the secondary market still.

Ah, very kewl. Yeah, was thinking it was probably something like that. They are perfect as is now :D

R. If you can please elaborate. Were the earliest Investigators Ti or variety of materials and are there grooves on a cap that is not on a Ti Investigator?

I really hope we don't start talking Generations on pens now.:(

I have a Ti one with the machining on the cap. I believe there were other materials too, aluminum for sure with grooves, not certain if they ever made them that way with brass, copper, aluminum or stainless steel, I sort of doubt it
