So, I got a wild hair, and picked up an Investigator pen. I got it for cheap, and I needed a few new pens for work (I am a machinist, and stuff gets kind of beat up in the shop, so I needed something durable). I ordered this pen, and an Extreme Duty pen as well, but this is the only one that has shown up so far. The other is on its way, so I will update this thread with my thoughts on it after I have it for a few days.

Onto the pen. It is an excellent size for pocketing, and I find that it stands in my pocket, right beside my knife. It is not heavy enough to notice it, but carries enought weight to achieve a nice ballance in the hand, as well as write solidly. The brass is nice, and overall, the machining is very clean, and pretty close tolerances. I ordered some 5/16ths GITD O-rings from Lighthound to go in the grooves, which gives a little more grip in the fingers. I forsee, lots of use in its future. The only change I will make, is I plan on turning down the center section, with the long straight grooves, to a smooth diameter, and then knurling it the full length.

Verdict: A solid and handsome addition to all the other stuff in my pockets.

I have one, all black. I love that pen and use it a lot at work. I'd like to see it after the knurling is done. Should look way cool.

I just got a brass Investigator today too - have a copper and titanium already. They are easily my favorite pen for pocket carry. They write well and beat a full size pen which I find pokes my leg when I am sitting. As much as I enjoy the heft of the Extreme Duty, I reach for the Investigator far more often.

Did you get the Extreme Duty in brass as well?

I have a black and a stainless Investigator. The only problem I find is that the parts unscrew. I lost a tip from a pen in my shirt pocket. They are great pens for writing so one rides in my wallet and the other on my desk.

Got the extreme duty in copper. Should be here monday.

Yes! The copper is the best. Once the pen takes on that bit of patina it looks great. And it is going to feel HEAVY compared to the Investigator.

You've got the old pen bug now. Look at the Tuff Writers, very nice pens. I'm getting one in a couple days I think.

You won't be disappointed with the operator (only model I've used)! Which model are you interested in?

I have carried a Ti extreme duty pen for a few years now, it has held up very well indeed. I have stabbed it trough a number of soft and hard targets and it is even pretty good for throwing, (with the no spin technique). The pen has literally only been pocket polished and has virtually no damage at all.

I would also like to see the knurled pen when you do it, I have thought about it my self but prefer the chunkier feel. :)
