Hello all. I have seen some Internet threads and videos pop up with mistakes here and there. I make them too, but thought I'd start a thread where people can comment and post what they might like to add.

Ok, here goes.

The Hinderer Investigator pen.
A very handy little pen powered by a Fisher pressurized ink cartridge. The pens are quality. No doubts about it, whatever material you decide on, the pens will serve you well for a very long time.

The Investigator is offered in a few different materials. I'll list them from lowest to greatest MSRP.

The least expensive is the aluminum body Investigator. It is available in blue, green, or black.

Next up is the stainless steel Investigator, it MSRPs for the same cost as the aluminum but is not available in colors, but most often in a bead blasted finish.

The Brass Investigators see a slight increase in price, followed by Copper with an even greater increase in cost.

The most expensive and unique looking of the Investigators is constructed of titanium. These pens are available in plain, bead blasted, blue, bronze or flamed finishes.

The Investigators vary in weight depending on materials with aluminum and titanium being slightly lighter than stainless, brass and copper.

The modular construction allows for the butt-end to be removed and replaced with a (sold separately) optional flat end piece. Removing the bullet end from the back if the pen is necessary for replacing the ink cartridge.
At this time, the bullet end ships installed on the pens, the flat end is the only other option that I know of. The bigger Extreme Duty pen has more options for its butt end.

The Investigator is a fairly small pen, not too small, but definitely needs the pen's cap screwed onto the tail end of the pen when writing any more than a quick note.

Ok, how about some photos...

Brass...brand new right out of the zipper baggie.

Add the Extreme Duty (modular system in aluminum), a Surefire Pen III, and the familure Sharpie.

Side by side a brass brand new and a brass EDC for many months and sporting o-rings.

Shiny bullet on a matte pen, I'll swap them for a better match.

great write up and great comparison shots! would definitely have loved to see this prior to my investigator purchase. Nice job throwing in the sharpie. When doing comparison pieces it's great having those everyday used items that you can easily compare it to when you're on the fence or curious.

thanks for the investigation

Thanks.

I only scratched the surface. But with videos on the Web showing in-hand, how quickly and easily the cap is removed for writing, details on length and weight, and so on...I just wanted something here on the forum we could reference as desired.

Anyone that wants to add to this thread or has questions (related to the thread or the Investigator) is encouraged to comment.

And, I figured most everyone has or is familure with the Sharpie, I looked for a common pen or two, but they were not nearby. So Sharpie filled the roll.

If anyone was wondering why I'm in the forums, it's people first, then information. In this one I shared some info in hopes of helping a few people. Hope all enjoy.

Thank you, Sir.

I would like to add that the o-ring that ships with the Investigators is way smaller than those I have in the o-ring and Investigator thread. Not only smaller inside and outside diameter, but the o-ring is smaller in gauge.

I much prefer the o-rings that ship with the pen for cap retention. I'll be looking into those and swapping accordingly. But for adding some cushioned grip on the pen's body, the larger o-rings work well.

Added link to o-ring thread for future reference.

I let my young nephew poke many of the holes in the photos, he's young and sub-60lbs. (fully clothed). It's fun for all ages.

Why so many haha !? Do you prefer the pen with or without the orings on the outside? I'm hesitant to put any on mine.

If you're post is directed at me...

Why so many? Because I have one for my pocket around the house, another for my EDC paired with the larger clicky Surefire, another is packed into a kit that is part of my air travel setup, and a 4th (the 2nd brass) was very generous gift.

As for o-rings...I feel the pen looks much nicer without them, looks a little better with snugged fitting/smaller o-rings,but for writing comfort...it's o-rings FTW. And the one to assist in retaining the cap is a must.
