Invisible Kit

My primary vehicle is a mini-van. As such, there is no trunk proper in which to secrete a SHTF kit.

Any suggestions as to the best way to hide one in plain sight? I'd asked this quite a while back, and am still looking for a better way.

I've thought about just sticking one of the Rubbermaid Roughneck car containers in the very back, and maybe toss some crap on top of it, but that may even more invite theft.

I've also thought about attaching several small kits to the fold-up seats.

Any mini-van owners with a sucessful plan?

the key for a vehicle like that is distribution. Items like sleeping bags and such can be under seats or even just in the back. Other items can be tucked here and there.

A laundry bag might also be an option (who wants to steal dirty laundry?) You could keep most of the kit in a laundry bag and leave a small package of laundry soap visible in the vehicle beside it.

Dude, nobody will break into a mini van lest they might be thought to own it, very uncool ;)

Seriously, you might check some aftermarket car catalogs, they might have a cover which would stretch from the back seat to the rear doors. I've seen them for hatchbacks and extended cab trucks, they might make them for vans as well.

Another option slide out drawers like they make for SUV's. The custom ones are pricey, but if you are handy you can build your own. With carpeting on top, this is hard to spot from outside.

1. Get one of those "cargo liners" and arrange the kit flat underneath it.

2. Get one or two of those brightly colored kid's seatback organizers and load it up with you SHTF gear. Based on my experience no one but the most desperat crackhead is going to mess with a minivan full of kid's stuff--What are they going to do? Pawn the Rafi cassettes?

put it in a black plastic garbage bag, seal it with several twist ties.

people will think it's trash. (!)

I like your suggestion, Martinsite. That is really good, and a wise use of camoflauge. I like the new Camelback packs. You can grab them and run in a second, they look innocent, like a school bag, and they hold the water so well. Add some other items like a pair of boots and some hikimg sticks, and you look like you've forgotten some stuff after a weekend day trip.
