Invitational Hog Hunt....

My cousin and I went on a hog hunt about 2-3 years ago. We were looking to do something a little different in the spirit of the great adventurers of long ago....(I know it is not that crazy, but it was crazy for us) We couldn't afford to go to Africa and hunt the classic animals or even go up north for big game. That is when I got turned on to Hog hunting with KNIVES....that sounded like adventure. Plus, I could design and build my "hog Knife".

We went on the hunt and had a great time! It is not as crazy as it sounds due to the dogs! They are great! I love dogs and love to watch them work. They really like what they are doing catching pigs!!

While there (south Texas) I started thinking about how much fun I had making the knife and then hunting with it and wanted to share that expericence with my knifemaking friends. Thats when I came up with the idea for an Annual Knifemakers Invitational Hog Hunt! It has taken me a few years to get it together, but we are having the first one the last week of October this year!

It looks like we are going to have 6 knifemakers: Craig Camere, Dan Koster, Luc Burnley, Josh Graham, Jon Graham and myself. Talk about a good crew!! This should be interesting also because we have steel grinders and steel bangers....should have some interesting knives.

Part of the reason for this thread is that we may have an room for one more hunter.... Would there be ANY interest in one of you going?? What if we did a raffle for one of my Ultimate Boar Knives and the hunt?? You would have to pay for travel expenses and trophy expenses..... What do you think?? Maybe 200-250 tickets at $20.00/each. If you were to win the raffle and were unable to go on the hunt, I would make you a matching TK-2 EDC and a matching TK-5 Magnum Hunter to help compensate for the lost hunt..

PLEASE NOTE THIS ONLY A POSABLITY RIGHT NOW. I DON'T KNOW IF WE HAVE THE EXTRA SPACE YET, AND I DON'T KNOW IF THERE IS ENOUGH INTEREST TO MAKE IT WORK.

Let me know what you guys/gals think. Would love some feedback on this....Thanks.

First picture....my "Ultimate Boar Knife"

Second picture.....my first pig.

Third picture......a trophy pig my cousin killed. This is the caliber of pig that we are going to hunt this fall. All BIG trophy stuff!!

Its a long way to go, but I do love pigging with knives, heck thats the only satisfying way to take em. Sounds like a great social event.

This is one of the things i plan to do when i'm a wee bit older.:)

Hope you all have fun and that knife is smooth looking.

www.accuratereloading.com has had many discussions about hunting pigs with knives .In Hawaii most pigs are taken that way ! The consensus is that a good knife should have a 8-12" blade with a strong point and a substantial guard. A recommended factory knife is the Cold Steel Trail Master. And don't forget you also need about 6 good ,well trained pig dogs !!!

Count me in on tickets! I'd like to go to take photos of the hunt....

Linda, you just earned MAJOR points in my book! You were definately raised correctly.

Mr. Krein, this is an awesome thing you are doing... I can't even imagine the stones it takes to go pig hunting with just a knife and dogs! Do y'all strip down to loin-cloths and paint yourself with woad?;) Ya might get Cindy interested then!:D

ummmmm a possible bonus I overlooked the posibility of....
I support the whole venture! Wonderful idea! I want one of these down here in the everglades...

Down here SW FL the hog hunters also rope em (hubby just reminded me). I have never been fortunate enough to go hog hunting with a group (good ol boy sport no women allowed I guess) but I have heard a few stories. I have also been the subject of a few stories being the intrepid wildlife photographer who gets treed by them.

That sounds like a blast. I love the knife BTW. I have an older Bauchop Alley Cat with a 7" blade and the blade contours seem somewhat similar, although this is much larger with a bigger guard and with a beautiful handle.
