Ionfusion Sharpening Question

I purchased a Buck 180CH Ionfusion Crosslock Hunter, 2nd hand, sight unseen.

I got it today, and I notice that the drop point blade is sharpened on both sides. I have never handled an Ionfusion coated blade, but from reading literature on the Buck website, it seems like the blade should be ground on one side only.

So my question is, is this how the blades come from the factory, or did the previous owner totally screw this knife up by sharpening the backside and make the Ionfusion coating totally worthless?

It's worthless, better send it to me! Actually, it is, sort of. The philosophy behind the ionfusion is likened to a beaver's tooth. The ionfusion is much harder than the metal on the oposite bevel. So, in theory, the metal will wear away and expose more and more of the ionfusion. So it's self sharpening like a beaver's tooth. Who ever had it before probably didn't know this, thought it was a flute from the factory and ground a second bevel. To the best of my knowledge, it should have been ground like an Emerson Commander, but with the ionfusion completely covering the right hand side of the blade, no ground bevel.

I would contact buck, via joe houser. They might be able to help youy out with getting it fixed up.

btw, ionfusion when done correctly will last a long time for all you usual slicing& dicing

Thanks for the replies. Contacted Buck and they said they would try to grind it down (up?) so that the original concept (exposed Ionfusion) was in play again.

BTW, the seller was 14 years old and claims that "a friend gave it ot him". I find that hard to believe.
