I hope Buck brings the Buckcote/ionfusion back to Pete's custom shop. My Ionfusion 110 is the best working blade I have ever had.

I've got two good ionfusion preformers and one the ionfusion coating started coming off on. I think the coating is supposed to keep the knife sharper 5 times longer than regular. Be careful though, Buck doesn't warranty the coating! Even though the same warranty paperwork comes in the box.

hmmmmm,

there is a lot of talk about this ionfusion today, and a lot of negative posts about coming from texou812. In fact, the guy only has 8 posts, and everyone of them is his moaning about the ionfusion coating and how buck doesn't warranty it.

Texou, I am getting weary of reading about your troubles. There is nothing wrong with posting in a thread here if you are unsatisfied with the service you recieved from buck, but 8 different threads with essentially the same post? Come on give me a break, this isn't communication it's propaganda.

So you got a knife and the manufacturer won't warranty the blade coating. I think you'd be hard-pressed to find any manufacturer who will warranty any coating. Blade coatings wear off during use, that is the nature of the beast. Some are more resiliant than others, but if you use your knife hard enough any coating will come off. Man up and deal with it.

Texou812,

It has come to my attention that buck WILL warranty the buckcote, so I owe you somewhat of an apology, and owe Buck huge kudos for once again proving that their warranty is the best in the business.

However, the point of you hijacking and clogging the forums with your story when one post/thread would do still stands.

This is different, in my opinion, because the coating is necessary for the enhanced blade function.

The only knife I have with Ion fusion is a small mini Bucklight. I never gave it a good test because I got it after all the the ion fusion stuff sort of went away and I didn't want to ruin a "collectable" knife. The funniest part is this little 2" blade is 1/2 serrated.

I'm kind of curious, did the coating wear off or scratch off. I cant tell from the posting. The Buckcoate will scratch if scraped against something hard. I scratched mine by putting on a One Armed Bandit thumbstud.
Buck may not have access to a coater any more. Kind of like a discontinued knife after a while, parts will run out.

I have two other ionfusions & have used them for years with good results. This knife in question was used once to clean a hog, cut only meat, and was cleaned imediately after. Ionfusion started coming off with wash in water only! I can't tell you how many white tail and hogs I have cleaned with the other two knives. They where the only knives I have that will hold an edge through cleaning a 400+ lb boar. That's why I know it was the particular knife that was defective. Not the ionfusion group as a whole. That's also why I was shocked that buck would not do anything. Read their warranty enclosed with every new knife of on their web page.

Jim

They where hard to dull and hard to sharpen but with practice you can sharpen them enough to shave!

Jim, forget what you read. It's very posible that Buck doesnt have any way to re coate them. Mybe they 'couldnt' rather than 'wouldnt'. Give Joe a chance. Email him, maybe someone was mis informed and didnt give you the full scoop. But get in touch with Joe.
There are only a few people who came from El Cajon and the others may not even have heard of Ionfusion.
Thanks for answering my question. Alot of times someone will complain and not return for follow ups. Contact Joe and keep us in the loop. take care, guy
