iPad Screen Protection Film? Yes or No?

I just bought a Gen 3 iPad, and am wondering about screen protection film. Is it necessary for easy and gentle use? Will the screen develop scratches from just finger tip use? If a screen protector is necessary, is image clarity better with some than with others? Recommendations?

I baught the one from best buy it's called zapp or something. It's the one they push on you to buy. Expensive buy worth it had mine for a year and no issues. It's like a soft vinyl ish feel. Good stuff. It's cheaper than a messed up screen on your pad.

I've never had a scratch on 2 iPhones and 2 iPads, never used a screen protector. I like the responsive of the naked screen as well.

Cheap piece of mind. I recommend zagg invisible shield

Eh, I like them. The good ones that leave a smooth almost satin kind of touch(a frictionless surface) makes it easier to use the touchscreen without dragging your finger across. Also makes it easier to just wipe any oils off the screen.

Protection films do not give you any additional protection. Glass screens are harder than film.

Glass screens are harder, but anything that might scratch the glass gets absorbed by the film instead. If you drag your keys across the display a couple of times you'll scratch it, but if you've got a film you can simply switch the film once it gets too bad.

I think they are. Prevents fine scratches from dust and stuff for sure.

I will go against the mass and recommend the ones that apple sells for them. Power support is the brand

Keys do not scratch glass. I have not managed to scratch my phone in the 3 years it has been in my pocket with only a gel cover for the back. YMMV of course.

I personally dont use one on my iPhone or Tab S. No scratches at all on either screen.

There isnt a screen protector out there that feels better than a bare screen to me. If you do get one, dont over pay at a big box store that will charge you 5x more than they should.

On a tablet, a screen protector is less necessary than it is on a phone, since you're far less likely to encounter anything that could scratch the glass. But I still use one on my tablet. I'd rather replace the screen protector every few months than have a permanent scratch.

Frankly, I have no sympathy for people with scratched cell phone screens, or shattered ones because they didn't protect them in a proper case. I've seen countless $600-900 iPhones with demolished screens because the owner was too dumb/lazy/vain to keep it in a case.

This is exactly why I always use one. I'm far from rough on my devices, but just in case, I like a small layer of extra protection for that one slip up. If you want to retain perfect screen clarity and sensitivity, I would go with one of the newer glass screen protectors. I have a Photive glass screen protector on my iPhone, and it is phenomenal. It is much harder than the screen beneath it, easy to apply, perfectly clear and sensitive, and I don't even know it's there. Plus, they're bubble-free when you apply them.

Might as well put one on. You spend a couple hundred dollars on a tablet, why not protect it for an extra couple bucks? I have the zagg on mine also.

Absolutely get one!! It will scratch!! Go to Best Buy, they are like $20 and they will put it on for you!! Chance are you are gonna be doing more than just finger tip touching on it! Once you find a cool game or a flight sim you ll be all over that screen! They re worth it and you hardly notice they re on there!!

I don't have one, I never had a problem for over a year of use. I do recommend a case. I have dropped it and smashed the corner. Also get a protection plan, it is worth it. Got a brand new one, no questions asked.

"Gorilla Glass 3, the glass had a hardness between 534 – 649 kgf/mm^2."

Now apple does not publish what kind of glass it uses for its screens but I would be willing to bet that the hardness is up there with cornings gorilla glass 3. That means that in order to scratch it you need something harder than 600_ish kgf/mm^2. Even a knife blade does not cut it. You need a hardened file or some quartz sand to scratch modern gadgets. A diamond would also do the trick. If any of those things are likely to come in contact with your screen then maybe you need a film...

One other possible reason for getting a screen protector is if you need an anti-glare finish. Glossy screens can be annoying. :D

I scratched gorilla glass. Pretty sure it was from some sand I got on the screen of my phone pulling my kayak out.

My iPad goes through a lot. I've had the Zagg HD protector on it since day one. (almost 3 yrs old now) and it's worked great.

The biggest reason I put the Zagg on both the front and back is that it gives you better slip resistance while in hand. It won't slip out of your hand nearly as easily as the bare screen will.
