iphone 3gs or 4?

Hey Folks,
I have an upgrade coming up in a month or so. My wife has an iphone 3gs and she is pushing for me to get one too. I have to admit, I like the apps and games and things that she has on her phone as well as some that are available that I would use, like GPS. So I'm thinking seriously about getting an iphone (ATT).

What are some of the differences between a 3gs and an iphone 4? My son has the 4. He said it has better resolution and the ability to do the face time video chat or whatever it's called. Any other big differences between the two? I'm not one to go out and get the latest and greatest when it comes out. I'd rather wait and let them figure out all the bugs and what not.

So what would you suggest? 3gs or the 4 and why please.
Thanks for your opinions
Rob

I have the 3GS. The 4 has a camera above the screen on the front enabling you to video chat. The 4 had the antenna issue resulting in dropped calls if you held it wrong. I think you can basically solve this with the purchase of a good case. Security issues have come to light and I think the 4 may be worse than the 3GS with regard to these but I am not sure. I'm not to tech savvy. :o The memory is also better on the 4 I think. I'm not to tech savvy. :( My 77 year old father got a 3GS right after I did and he's never used a computer. He's using Google and Wikipedia like there is no tomorrow. :D

Def go for the 4 if for nothing else but the retna display ( high resolution screen ) ! If I were you I would wait for the 5 to come out ;)

I prefer the 3GS, from a hacker, and piraters aspect the 3GS is way Less buggy, and more reliable

The 4s only real advantage is the screen and the cameras, and a slightly better gps, unless you really want those I'd go with the 3GS

Note- I'm on my 3GS right now :P

Wait for the 5. If you don't like ATT you know you can switch to Verizon now too

Or you could just unlock it- Like me :)

I'm on Cincinnati bell- obviously a much smaller company

And I agree- your Proubly better off waiting for the 5

im in the same position. I was tempted to wait for the 5 but the news going around is that there wont be a true iPhone 5 released this year, that they might release a smaller cheaper version of the iPhone, perhaps something that can be called the iPhone Nano?

Anyway, you want to get the iPhone 4. There are many improvements, including the front facing camera, improved rear camera and the fact it actually records HD Video. Even if they release a 5 this year, the price will be much higher then the 4, and besides that I heard the iPhone 6 is slated for a redesign. Ive heard the 6 will have a larger screen that goes edge to edge with no borders(Maybe top and bottom border, not sides). Id imagine it will have an even better camera and 4G support. Either way, you can keep playing the waiting game if you want but there will be something new coming around the corner, so stick with the 4 for now which has great features, and when its time for another upgrade, get the I6 or I7, whatever is out at the time...

Thats what im going to do anyway...

I've got a 3GS (on it right now) and my wife has the 4. The 4 is so much better, it's worth it just for the better camera and the resolution. I'll be getting one myself in 2 months :)

Sorry I didn't get back to this thread sooner:o
Thanks for all the replies folks. Plenty of info to help me make a choice. I still have some time till the next upgrade.

Be original and get a motorola atrix :D

I just got one. Very cool phone once you learn the new OS. First day is very frustrating. This has replaced my laptop for web browsing.

I've been told that with an i-Phone 4 and their new "cloud" whatever it is that it will now play flash (of course it's through the internet, not really on their o/s). I would get the 4 for that capability. Of course if you're not in a 3G/4G intense location it might not be worth it to you.

The iPhone 4 is not a 4g capable phone. That will be reserved for the iPhone 5, which is reported to come out at the beginning or middle of October. The iPhone 5 will be released on ALL major carriers. Just thought I would inform the masses.
