Hey guys, figured this might fit in here as it's supposed to be a pretty rugged case. Just got my Verizon iPhone 4, 19 days ago, but at the time otterbox hadn't come out with a compatible case. So I bought a casemate Pop! case for the time being. I've been keeping up on the case situation and on monday i ordered a case, standard shipping, around 3:22pm, it was shipped at 4:26pm and around 4:30pm tuesday i received it. Been rocking it going on 4 days saturday and I love it. I was just wondering how many of you have used otterbox on your different devices, what did they stand up to, what didnt they. Did they last, etc. I'd like input from defender users, but feel free to post other types of cases! I just got the standard black one as they don't have colored cases out right now. The case was just under 27 with just under 9$ shipping and about 1.50 off the price due to a code i found. So all in all i paid just under 35 with shipping. I do a lot of hiking, fishing (both fresh and salt water), walking around in the woods and biking, among other things. Wondering if it'll hold up to light but steady rain too. Figured this case would fair best for my iphone.

In theory the so called "smartphones" (including iphone) could be quite useful, with gps and stuff.

Now in practice they generally have very short battery time, are brittle, can't imagine use those dirty fingers of mine when I'm out on that touch screen...
A ruggerized case doesn't improve those much.

I for myself when out use a $30 "candybar" Nokia phone with a monochrome screen.
Built like a brick. It will run a full week on a single charge (if not more). It even has a built-in flashlight.
There are stories of people throwing them on concrete floor without much damage.

Not true ruggerized phone (not waterproof) but get most of the job done.

I have the defender on my iPhone and this thing is a tank. It has not only met my standards but blew them out of the water. I payed almost $60 for mine and that was hard to do thinking it was just a case, however this case has already payed for itself. I had it on the belt clip all day yesterday as we were plowing snow and towing cars and it was good to know it was safe there. Definitely a great investment for anyone who has a high dollar phone.

I've got the otterbox defender case on my iPhone 4, it's held up really well, I'd recommend it to anybody. My only complaint is that it does make the phone a lot bigger, it really only matters to me because I pocket carry, I didn't like the belt clip.
Is the verizon version of the iPhone different in some way that the AT&T style iPhone case won't fit?

I bought the Otter Box Commuter along with my Blackberry Curve. I'm death on phones and cameras, and went through 3 of each last year. They usually have scratches and dings, and edges showing wear within weeks. Had the Blackberry 5 months now, and between the Otter Box and a screen protector, the phone looks like new when I take off the cover and clean the keys. I feel like I've actually been less careful with it, due to the cover, so am really pleased with how it's holding up.

Pretty much the only difference is that they moved the mute/volume buttons down slightly to make room for the CDMA antenna and they switched the look of the stainless steel antenna around the phone.

I have the defender for my 3GS. DO NOT trust the clip. I have found the clip unreliable. Granted, I am overweight but the person who warned me about the clip is fit and trim. YMMV but watch it. My phone has survived at least 3 4' drops over the last year and a half, two from the clip. I pocket carry now and have had no problems. No big scratches on the cover although cat hair and a little dust can eventually work their way in.

However, you can remove the belt clip from the clip body and attach it to your car dash with automotive Velcro. Then secure your phone in the clip with some sort of lanyard/Velcro strap when driving down the road.

I had a defender case for my iPhone 3GS and need to get one for the 4 to use when I'm in the field. I also had a defender for my iPod nano and that thing was worth 10 times what I paid for it! I kept my iPod in it through 3 deployments, had countless drinks spilled on it, sand storms, drops, kicks, tossed across the room etc etc etc. And the iPod never showed any signs of the abuse it survived.

If you're tough on electronics, invest in otterbox products.
