My first smart-phone was my BB Curve and I was very happy with it the whole 2 years I used it. I was extremely happy in that I no longer had to frequent the home office pc to check email and post on forums. During that time I learned where the BB was strong and where it was weak. I really enjoyed the fast email function and the calendar and notes were a life saver to have with me.
Fast Forward to now.......
I was very much looking forward to the new Bold as it was larger and that would make the web use that much more enjoyable. About 2 months ago my sons Curve took a dirt nap and we were able to early upgrade and we went over to the BB area to see what he would get. I quickly learned of the newer Bold to replace the larger 9000 (I think thats the model number). It was like I was totally dumbfounded on what I was going to do in the next 2 months to find what phone I needed to replace my beloved Curve.
I tried and tried to fall inlove with the new Bold but it wasnt happening!! Screen too small and keys too mushy. Yeah - It has WiFi and faster than the curve but my curve loaded webpages faster than his on the edge network as no 3G here yet. No matter how hard I tried I just couldnt live with the same small ass screen for web browsing and I was disappointed that the BB design team didnt see that the larger screen sizes every other company was developing was making the tiny screen seem well........not a step in the wrong direction but simply a step in NO direction.
No Droid on Att.....didnt like what the backflip as looking to be as I wanted a phone that wasnt a simple remake of an existing phone to compete with the Droid.
After all that I took the iPhone plunge!!! I read and read and youtubed and reviewed my ass off for like 3 weeks.
Now with about a month under my belt I am 100% happy that I made the plunge.
I actually enjoy the fact that my phone doesn't get the email RIGHT AWAY and its only maybe 20 min max behind if that. I like that it doesn't annoy me with every email as it comes but I can check it on my own time and its set to check it automatically every 30 min.
The virtual keyboard is pretty cool and as I type on my laptop, I making just as many corrections on it as my virtual keyboard so its not the screen
The text messaging could be upgraded a tad but there are features in that that I like better. I like that I can choose to send one portion of an existing text as a forwarded text and I like that its totally separate from my emails.
I am using the hell out of the iPod thats on the phone and have found way more podcasts than I'll ever listen too. There free and I have everything from bigfoot subjects to talks about searching for Noah's Ark. Survival podcasts to Eastman hunting Podcasts...Camping podcasts to searching for the Thylacine!!! If you like talk radio you will love podcasts. This American Life with Ira Glass has a free podcast weekly if I remember correctly.
The Apps...........well my favorite app so far is the Photobucket App. Makes quick forum picture posts way more simple for me. Yeah - The picture quality may be lacking but the simple camera phone and post to a forum is the tradeoff and so fay if picture quality isnt critical - Who Cares
The calender and Note programs could be better but very usable and not anything that will hold a brotha' back from using them
Last but not least the web browsing is WAYYYYY better than the BB ever could be.
If BB would just modify the phones to have a slider keyboard and a full screen I know they would get more customers not loose ones like myself.
If you ever think you will like an iPhone go for it!! I used my GPS App today to mark deer trails he he
