A while back, there was a question of whether the forumites would be interested in an iPhone version of the forum. I just recently ran across an iPhone app called Taptalk (I think there are Android and Blackberry versions, too) that serves as a cell phone interface for vBulletin forums. I believe that the the forum owner just has to turn on some setting in the software to enable Tabtalk to read the forum.

Its not perfect, but its a bit easier than trying to read the forum on a cell phone based web browser. Has there been any thought to enabling Taptalk on BFC?

That reminds me, I need to install berryblab.

That would be great to have the Tapatalk plugin enabled. No more squinting on my iPhone. More importantly, I it's much more handy to check the subforums and replying to PMs quickly. Sometimes browsing on the iPhone and reading long threaded PMs is a chore. Would really love to have this functionality :)

I must admit I would be interested in having a play with this tapatalk if you would be so kind as to enable it.

After investigating, I'm probably going to install a mobile-skin for the forums instead of any plugins that cause the members to have to purchase an additional application to use the forums. I'm investigating skins now.

Sounds reasonable, I look forward to the results of your investigation.

I have no idea what would be involved with creating an app.

Fortunately you don't need to. If you were to go with the OP's suggestion all you need to do is insall the plugin in the forum software. The apps for the phones are already written. There is one for Android (free) and one for iPhone ($2)

This is assuming you want to go that way of course.

Mobile skin would work just fine for now, but it might not be a bad idea to look into creating an app for the iPhone, and Android.

Mobile skin would be OK but, as I said in my post above, the apps already exist, they only need the vBulletin plugin to work.

The problem with these aps is that they wrap the forums in their own advertising.

I don't... think so. I have been using TapTalk for a while to follow another on-line forum when I am away from my computer and I have not noticed any extraneous ads.

Even if that was the case, if the choice is an ad-supported app or no app at all, I'll choice the ad-supported app. After all, it does not impact the regular forum, and if people don't like it and don't want to use it they are no worse off than they are no with no mobile app at all. ;)

Another vote to install Berry Blab. I have one and with the current configuration, it takes so long to find, read, and post that I stay away.
