Anybody else here with an iPod Touch 2G with the new 3.0 firmware upgrade on it? I jailbroke mine using the new redsn0w.

I'm in the process of jailbreaking my 2g right now. This is going to be great once the bluetooth capabilities are fully unlocked. BTW I've seen you post on ipodtouchfans I go by Spool over there, I don't really post much there though.

Yeah, i like to mess with the people there and make stupid posts or get everyone riled up once in a while lol so if you see stupid posts youll know why. I like it so far, i did a clean install. The battery icon and %age are next to each other, where as on 2.2.1 the battery was replaced by the percentage. I like everything else though. I noticed theres no toggle for the app push.

I'm typing this on a jailbroke iPhone 2g 16gb running 2.2.1, I haven't upgraded to a 3.0 jailbreak because I am going to wait until the 2.2.1 stuff is ported to 3.0.

Per wiki "Once jailbroken, iPhone/Touch users are able to download many applications previously unavailable through the App Store via unofficial installers such as Cydia, Icy, and iDA"

You can fully customize your iphone/ipod touch with backgrounds. Pretty much change any visual aspect, make it act different. third party applications and you can download cracked apps (free paid apps). More stuff but i just woke up so my brains not fully on lol.

I have been customizing my iPod Touch since I have had it. I have all kinds of Wallpapers for it.

With a jailbreak? I don't mean the lockscreen. I mean the springboard background, remove the unlock slider n stuff like that.

i have an ipod touch, but have no idea what you guys are talking about.

i just listen to music and watch movies.

is unlocking/jailbreak more of a "toy", or is it useful to a basic user like me?

If you just use it for movies and music then you won't see a whole lot of gains with a jailbreak. However there is really no downside to it and the customization options are a lot of fun. I jailbreak mine more to just screw around with it than anything else.

Because it voids the warrantee. And it could potentially screw it up. I am not interested in "jailbreaking" my iPods.

i jailbreak mine and it was fun  now i can download tons of stuff

You realize the jailbreak can be cleared through iTunes and you will still have a warranty?
And that only one iPhone/itouch has EVER been bricked through jailbreaking to my knowledge?
It's a very safe process with nothing to lose, and everything to gain.
