A good customer wanted a camp knife that he could use and abuse - and look good doing it.
It will see some batoning, as well, so she's a little thick. ;) About .280" at the guard, and for most of the spine to the false edge.
I had acquired a large supply of a special run of 1" square 5160 made in 1984, so he requested that for the steel, knowing its capabilities from knives he already has.
She's 11 1/2" long.
Blackwood handle with "bull's eye" pins and washers.

(Comfortable as all get-out!)

personally, I don't see this knife as being one of your best, Karl. The forged in guard area looks uncharacteristically messy compared to what I've seen from you in the past. The handle profile looks a little odd to me as well.
Sorry, I really do try to keep my mouth shut when I don't have nice things to say, but I have to be honest in that I'm a little perplexed by this one.
I hope that you aren't offended by me offering my view.

Everything came out exactly as I planned it.
I consider that a complete success.
I'll take 5 out of 6 any day.

(And the customer was ecstatic - so I guess that makes it 6 out of 7.)

Looks like it was fun to make.

Very nice and unique brut de forge that looks like it'll get the job done.
Congrats to you, Karl, and the new owner !

I love that ricasso treatment.

EDIT/ADDITION: I've always thought that it's the little touches that make a really good knife that much better.

It looks like it's ready for some action. It will surely handle the job easily, awesome blade and cool handle. Excellent work!

I wanted to thank everyone for their kind comments.
The "Brute de Forge" platform can be a challenge to pull off with a bit of style, sometimes, and can also get reactions from both ends of the spectrum.
The customer received it.
I couldn't get him off the phone.
He has 6 other knives of mine. Hunters, Bowies and Camp knives. All of them more expensive that this one.
And he was as much, or more, excited about this one than any of the others.
An avid camper and hiker, he promised this would see a lot of use.
Now, back to that dagger.........;)

I'll bet he was excited. I can't imagine how much fun it would be to swing that puppy and watch it bite!
