Just finished this hawk up yesterday and it will be heading to its new home on Monday. The picture does not do this piece any justice, it came out really nice. The handle is 17 1/2" long, ground to fit from a 2"x2"x20" stick of ironwood, you talk about nasty, man that ironwood dust tastes like s*** and that was wearing a respirator. Hawk head and cap were made from a piece of damascus, 1084 + 15n20 with 448 layers.

Thanks

Bill

Bill, If that is a poor picture than the real thing must be too sexy. Simply elequent! Its the first Ive seen with ironwood too.

Just to SEXY Bill..
Did you hot cut and drift the hole or did you wrap the bar around the drift and weld it together?
Bruce

Thanks Guys,

Stumpy, cutting edge is 2 3/4"

Bruce, I split and drifted the hole

Gib, John williams the man that ordered the hawk, sent me the piece of ironwood for the handle, I'm hoping John will give me his source here in a few days. :)

I'm the proud owner of the Buxton Damascus and Ironwood Tomahawk. I can't wait for it to arrive. Bill's work is, well the photos speak for themselves! This makes number two, but I have a feeling there's gonna be many more! Bill, I'll keep supplying the wood, till you tell me to stop.

Thanks Roy & Joe.

John, you just keep sending the wood and I'll do my best to keep making what you want. ;)

Bill that's righteous! It just flows till there's no tomorrow. I've been fortunate to see a few damasucus hawks, but never one that looked so spry and light as that. Thanks for sharing!

And now you know why they call it "iron"wood. :)

Holy Crap that's cool Bill!!!

Did you buy your drift or make it? I really need to make one of those suckers. Also, do you clamp the head and hammer the drift through, or clamp the drift and hammer the head over it?

Man, that's a nice one Bill :D

Nick

Nick,You don't clamp the steel at all.Cut your hole through the bar then run the drift through over a hole big enough for the drift to pass through or you can use your post vise like I do in my video.
Bruce

Nick,
Exactly like Bruce said, I start the drift over the hardy hole in my anvil then as I spread wider I use a piece of RR track that I blew a hole in with a torch, it fits perfectly on top of my anvil letting me run the drift down the outside edge of the anvil.
