Here's a Groove in Desert Ironwoood. I still need to tweak the profile a bit, but it's pretty good.

Very nice....if you would do those for other people I'd buy a Groove just to send it to you. Excellent job.

well he did say he had to do some more work to finish, but i'd wager he has to make room for the ability to carry tip up, so one of the scales needs to have less material.

Damn, I wanted to be the first to post this! I'm working on black palm scales for my tanto groove right now.

firebert....how come the front and back scale arent more symmetrical?

Part of the reason is that the scale profiles aren't quite right. The other reason is that the lock side scale has to accommodate the clip and lock bar. I wanted the scale to protect the lock bar a bit so I don't push it closed when trying to unlock it (it might be that I'm unused to frame locks).

The second set I made is much better looking.

Phillip, I visited your link to your pics. The boxes you've created are the best I've every seen.
Simply amazing.

firebert - I get it now. I was wondering about the logic for covering the lock, I think I personally would be afraid to break the unsupported portion of the scale over the lock, but your reason makes sense.

Thanks for answering my question, after I typed it, I was like, essh, that looks like a "jerk" question. Glad it didnt rub ya the wrong way.

It wasn't a "jerk" question at all. I like to know when I mess something up accidentally. In this case, it shows you were paying attention. Sometimes I don't catch the mistakes or realize they might bug someone else. It's how we get better.

That's going to look awesome. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Your Ironwood scales are sweet. I originally thought I'd trace out the original g10 scales, minus all the little humps, but I changed my mind. I'm doing something more along the lines of the handle itself.

The g10 on the groove is nice and grippy for a flat piece of plastic, but it looks like an afterthought.

If you use thicker stock (1/8") and contour it, it fits you hand really nicely. That's what I did with the amboyna pair and I like it a lot, much nicer than the G10 or my ironwood set.
