Warning! This post contains spoilers. It's not like this should bother you, because I can only advise against watching this cinematic Chernobyl.

The "innovative" feature of this movie is the fact that the story is told backwards. Of course this has been done before (Memento) and in a way, it's just a variation (dare I say pretentious rip-off?) of Tarantino's characteristic style. This movie sucks so much you oughta be able to use the DVD as a vacuum cleaner. It's a pseudo-intellectual voyeuristic POS.

The director, Gaspar Noé, proudly announced that his movie was the most walked out of at Cannes. Probably not because some of the scenes were so disgusting (although they were indeed disgusting), but because over 80% of the movie was entirely superfluous, adding virtually nothing to the story in any way shape or form.
Seriously, the whole movie wouldn't really lose any scenes that are even marginally important to the barely existant story if it was shortened to about 10 minutes.

It's not disturbing in a "Saw" kind of way, but in a "what the hell was the director thinking" way.

The story (I'll skip the stupid reverse chronology crap and put it in the actual order for the sake of clarity):

A woman, her boyfriend and her ex (who is also her boyfriend's buddy) ride a train, go to a party and talk, talk, talk...about nothing really. In fact the movie did not even have a script! The dialogs were almost completely improvised and it shows. Watching and listening to their pointless conversation during the train ride, for example, is more boring than a Chinese talk show without dubbing or subtitles (no offense to the Chinese, I just don't speak their language).

Later the woman is being raped by a stranger. The director just exploited the shock value and maybe fed some viewer's sick voyeuristic tendencies. He actually intended to make a movie that gets banned for violence, probably the only way he saw for an untalented hack like himself to become famous.

The woman's friends then try to locate and kill the rapist, but one of them beats another person not related with the rape to death with a fire extinguisher.

It has no meaning, it's supposed to stand on its own via its shock value. In this age, where real beheadings and God-knows-what are shown all over the internet, this is not gonna work.

Man, this movie is so bad...I just wish I could get the 100 minutes of my life back that I spent watching this catastrophe.

I couldn't watch it either. It's a bit too flashy with the cinematography.
The only reason i actually wanted to watch it was Monica Belluci. It's a movie critic's movie. I think empire magazine actually gave it 5 stars or close to that. I just couldn't stand it.

Tonight however i watched Hotel Rwanda. Awesome movie and good performances by the whole cast.

BTW, i don't agree with you on Saw. That was a totally useless movie. Too many horror movie cliches and the usually good danny glover just gave a really bad performance. I didn't find it disturbing at all but rather annoying how the cops were useless and it had the all too usual horror twist ending. Once in awhile i would like a movie to just end when it ends. However, the mouthpiece scene was a bit scary.

Was it as bad as "Terms of Endearment" that is the standard I use for horrible flicks...that or Ron Jeremy Porn flicks...

I never saw a Ron Jeremy porn flick. But, 'Terms of Endearment' rates as a horror movie to me, as does 'Divine Secrets of the yo yo Sisterhood.' That kind of crap scares me to death and I let my wife watch them alone.
