I have a massive elm tree down in my garden. My friend dropped it for me last spring. I cut on it during the winter last year ,but had some health issues that slowed me down. I have been 2 seasons without a garden. I have been working on my 14 in Jonsonred chainsaw for the last week. My plan was to cut everything I could with it and the borrow or rent a bigger saw to cut the big stuff. After working on it I decided I would have to rebuild the carb . I just wasn't wanting to do that. So I went and bought an Echo with a 20 in bar I cut some Fri. And Saturday morning. As I picked up the old saw to put it up until I get to fixing I just tried it once first. It fired but spit and sputtered . . I set it on my bench ,after Church today I hit it again. It spit and sputtered a few seconds and took off running  took it out and it run like a charm. I really didn't need to spend $350 right now. Having 2 saw ain't a bad thing just the timing sucks.
We need the garden because both my wife and I are type 2 diabetic and fresh greens help we eat a lot more with we can walk out back and pick them. Thanks for letting me vent a little

Having recently bought a new Echo, I'll guess that you bought the 490. I went a step bigger, and got the 590. I think you'll be thrilled with the new saw, and you had a use for the bigger one already sitting there; so there's not much point worrying about money spent. (I'm fighting the urge to go get a smaller saw for when I need light & maneuverable...grabbed a 14"bar for my 20+ yr old saw; but it's still 40cc & doesn't pass as small or light)

The new saw is a beast . I will probably get a 16 or 18 in bar . It would be more than I need after I get this tree cut up and I will have the bigger bar if needed.
I gained 4 ft on the front side of the garden this weekend giving me the front third usable the back quarter just needs small limbs picked up. What is left is 5 in diameter and up that stuff is quicker to cut. I have been burning the cut wood against the knotty piece where all the limbs split to burn that up as being Elm that piece would be nearly impossible to split

Knowing you, its probably something that you wouldn't consider doing out of principal, but do you have the receipt? Glad you got the tree looked after, and two saws are not a bad thing, I'm sure you'll need both at some stage.

Yeah you're right on that. I bought it and it has been used. It performs as it is supposed to so no I will not be taking it back.
That would violate one of the primary rules of my personal constitution do unto others as you would have them do unto you .

I thought about selling the littler saw and getting a 16in bar and chain for the echo

That's what I figured. Have a good holiday, hopefully your work pays off on that garden. I'd like more veggie space, but balconies don't work well for that, and grass is a waste of space.

Yes but I wish it would have happened before I spent $375 ($349 + Tax) it would have been easier on the budget a couple weeks later into January

Well I got out the saw out yesterday ,and it would not start again :( . I got the tool to adjust the carburetor in the mail today. I ran both hi and low adjustments all the way in counting the turns then twice that out then back to where I started. Hit the primer 6 times choked it and it started right up
