Is 2/3rds lockup too late on the ZT0561?

It started off with a lockup about 40% of the way across the tang and was a little sticky. The detente was also a little weak. I sent it in to ZT and now the detente is perfect but the lockup is like 2/3rds of the way across the tang. Should one expect the lockup to advance like that? There's still very little blade play or lock rock. Should I have it re-carbodized? It still sticks a little bit, but not much.

Depends on who you ask. IMO it's fine. I really wouldn't worry about it. Just go cut some stuff with it.

I actually prefer a later lock up, so there’s worries here. If theres no issue with the lock disengaging and it locks solid, its good.
I don’t understand why people like early locks. I have seen people sell a knife because they’re lock up wasn’t early enough to have to look through a microscope to see if the lock was engaging at 2%.

Would you want a safe with a door that only closes 3/4 of the way?

My 0561 is at about 70-75%. It's solid as a rock. No blade play or rock lock. As long as its tight I can care less about the lockup percentage.

Use it,enjoy it. it has a warranty if it ever gets to where it hits the other side then send it in.

All they did was apply more spring pressure to the lock bar. More pressure = lock bar traveling further on the blade tang (in addition to stronger detent).

Nothing to worry about. In addition to being carbidized, titanium work hardens over time. The face that comes in contact with the blade will work harden and wear will slow down significantly. Use it and enjoy.

I don't think that's what they did. I tried that before sending it in, and the additional pressure doesn't last very long. It's now about perfect and seems to last. I suppose people worry about late lockup because they're concerned about wear and an early lockup is some kind of guarantee that it's not going to wear out soon. Plus, I feel guilty about flipping it too much I guess. I never heard that bit about work hardening. I have a CRKT Eros that has 100% lockup and it's a very small Ti integrated lock. It's a lot of fun to flip so I have to exercise a great deal of self-restraint.

I am in the minority I guess, but I hate early lockup. It doesn't make me feel safe, with a tiny corner keeping the blade open. I like at minimum 40%
