Is $300 a reasonable price for a new Cold Steel Rajah I?

I decided that I want to buy a Cold Steel Rajah I, and I have been looking for some time now. I found one locally for $300 - it is a new one in box. I know Cold Steel was selling those for $99 at the end, but I missed that, because I was not really looking at this knife back then. I do not remember how much the Rajah I was before that.

Well they're discontinued and they seem to be getting that kind of price on the auction sites. So in that sense they're worth it. I have one and only paid $100, but would never have considered buying one at the regular price of $200. So strictly from a practical sense $300 is overpriced.

If it's worth it to you then it's worth it. I personally wouldn't pay 5 bucks for one.

Quick check of a popular auction site shows lots of Raja 2's and 3's around $80 but I haven't seen a 1 yet. Gotta love CS for these sorts of things, I can't imagine anyone else making a folding kukri style knife, at least not at these sizes.

If you search "completed items" on the well known auction site, you'll see a few Rajah I's going anywhere from mid 200's up to almost $400.

The main differences between the I and II is the I's have a solid aluminum frame and bolsters with Micarta scales ( instead of the molded composition handle and steel liner on the II). The blade is satin finished on the I , the II is bead blasted. Both have the Triad lock and I think the steel is the same. The III is like the II but smaller.

Yeah, I am familiar with the differences. I thought I would eventually simply buy a Rahaj 2 when I missed the closing sale of Rajah 1 (I wish I was a member here back then, I would have never missed such event), but the bead blasting and the handle material turned me away. Also, Rajah 2's are being sold locally for about $170-180, getting one from online store would be $140-150 with shipping and taxes here.
I had a hard time finding any Rajah 1's for sale, at least to compare the price with that of the local guy. Thanks for sharing the info on completed items, JDP1998, I did not know you could search them on the well known auction site.

I don't know were you are buddy but even here in Canada, were knives are often pricier than in the states, a 2 is only $108.00 new. I've had a 2 for a couple of years now I believe. Never used it for much but it is fun to play with.
:D

i'm pretty sure the Rajah 1 had thicker blade stock as well. something like 6.5mm vs. 5mm on the "2"

I just found the price that the official dealer of Cold Steel for my country was asking for a Rajah 1, when it was avaible - $360... You've got to love European knife prices. Now that I think about it, $300 sounds like a bargain.

they are all over , price is around $80 what are u talking abouth $300?

IIRC, 4.8mm on the 2 and 5.2mm on the 1.

Like said, if you have the money and this is what you want, then buy it. If it gets sold to someone else, are you going to decide you don't want one? Buy it I say, buy it!

If you don't like it , you probably can sell it and at least get your money back.

theres no such thing as a $300 cold steel bargain. even with european inflated knife prices your not that far from some of the other us makers like esee

Rangstormer. I have a rajah 1 like you are looking. For. maybe we could work some kind of trade up.
