Looking at the custom 110 maker---I REALLY like the looks of the blackened 420HC blade the best----would I be giving up all that much if thats what I were to order instead of the BG-42???

This knife will be a user and not sock drawer queen.

Thanks

No it's not bad at all.... it certainly won't hold the edge that BG-42 does, but it is very easy to strop/sharpen. Which these days means alot to me as well. So if you like black and you know how to keep an edge true you'll be fine with 420C.

What would be sweet for you is if you could snake one of the S30V black TiN blades from the Alaskan Hunter series and put it on a custom!

If the heat treat isn't good, 420HC really is that bad. Fortunately Buck's treatment is very good, but I still find that it loses it's edge faster than I like. I much prefer D2, VG-10, or BG-42. If I was getting a 110 at the custom shop, BG-42 would be my first, second, and third choice. Maybe they can coat one for you.
