Does anyone know of a source of 52100 in barstock? If you do, please let me know or post a source on the forum.

Thanks,

Sheffield Knife Supply used to sell some thin 52100 bar stock, but only in one size (.125 X .75 or around that size). I have also bought 52100 from Daryl Meier in 1/4 in. thickness and in 1.75 in. round.

I know other people have sold rerolled bar stock in the past, but I'm not sure of their names or if they are still doing it.

I would actually like to find someone who does sell 52100 in thinner sections. Does anyone else know of a good supplier?

Round bar can be had from almost any big steel CO

There is someone with alot of 6" bar and they are looking to have rerolled into flat stock.

would be nice.

[I just found this web site. I have 52100 that I forge from a 6" dia bar on a 20 ton pneumatic press. Tremendous reduction and extremely fine grain. I can surface grind to any thickness, If anyone is interested they can contact me at rexnpam@thesafetynet.com QUOTE]Originally posted by Matt Janiga:

I often provide 52100 barstock to other makers. I'm not set up to do it on a large scale, but am happy to provide rough ground bars of just about any size, and precision ground up to 10" in length. If anyone is interested, feel free to email me off forum for prices.

The 52100 flat stock from Sheffield is what I use on my small knives with little or no forging. I forge the rest of the 52100 from 1.75" dia. bars. I have the mil specs on the 1.75" and also have plenty for resale.

I can provide 52100 that I forge from 6" dia. bar to just about any size.Chemical analysis is provided. If possible avoid recycled bearings and other mystery metal. There are at least 5 different types of 52100 that have been used for bearings.Bearings, races and other items are also made from grades of steel that are not 52100. Some are really close but they will behave differently to forging and heattreating.
