Is a 60TX X-Timer worth $6?

Howdy folks. First time poster here in the Schrade forum.

Anyway, I saw an ad from a local sporting goods store selling what appears to be a 60TX X-Timer for $6 (reg. $39.99). Is it worth getting? What kind of steel does it have and how well does it hold an edge?

BTW, I have an old 134OT that I bought some time in the 80's. Out of curiousity, anybody know what that might be worth?

Thanks!

[Edit: Correction: I have a 194OT.]

The 60TX is undoubtedly one of the new Chinese Taylor-Schrades. FYI, The Imperial-Schrade Corporation went out of business in 2004, and most of the collectors here specialize in Schrade knives made in 2004 and earlier.

Still, it doesn't take much of a knife to be worth $6. I wouldn't have high expectations from the steel on a six dollar knife, but if you can handle the knife at the store and check the overall fit and finish (loose blades, lock engages securely, etc.) you'll have a good idea.

I do have an original Schrade knife that's similar to that and it's made very well. If you look on eBay you can probably find some of the originals for sale.

The 34OT is the most common Old Timer model and they sell regularly on eBay. Prices vary substantially depending on the age, condition, and whether the knife still has it's original box and paperwork. Assuming the knife is in mint condition and the box is included, I expect that it would sell in the $20-$40 range, more if it has an older tang stamp and box style.

You can do a Completed Items Search on eBay to see for yourself. Keep in mind that many of the Old Timer knives on eBay are modern Chinese reproductions. Only compare your knife to other 34OT knives with "USA" stamped on the blade.

Best Wishes, and Welcome to BladeForums,

There were some 6OTX's made in Ellenville NY, it would be stamped Schrade+ U.S.A 6OTX and would be a good buy for $6. The new imports would not have the U.S.A on the stamp.
Welcome Rick

I appreciate the replies, Bob W and Upstream. I'll definitely handle the knife before purchasing. Thanks for the tip about the U.S.A stamp. I will look for it.

Regarding my Old Timer. I believe I am mistaken on the model. Looking at the galleries, I probably have a 194OT, not a 34OT. Anyway, I'm gonna figure it's not worth much, so I'll probably keep it for sentimental value.
