Hey folks...

I just wondered if my knife is that rare or not? The first "good" knife I ever bought was a Benchmade 880BT. I kind of like it but it's a bit to big for me to carry. I did some searching and I see some 880's and some 885 Mini-Darkstars but I didn't see many 880BT's.

Is this a rare knife? If not, was it not bought/used by many people? I don't hear much about it.

Here's a pic of it.

Heck I still see them at NGK for over one hundred bucks.

Thanks,

they have been disco'd for several yrs now, but they are pretty common.

IIRC NGK had them in '99 or so maybe '00 for like $70 or so on closeout.

Yeah, they are still fairly common. I picked one up a while back for about $70, as I recall.

I don't see why there's not more demand this one; it's a mighty fine knife. It's the precursor to the extremely popular Ares line, and actually has a bit longer blade. And the black-on-gold style is pretty dang sharp-looking.

It's a good looking knife. I still see a few of them from time to time in my area. Harder to find still would be the older Benchmade Sentinel.

Yeah, those are pretty hard to come by. Took me a while to track one down...

It's cool to look at the 875 Sentinel, 880 Dark Star and 730 Ares side by side, and see the evolution of the concept. Elishewitz is a very talented designer, and the Ares shows the results. As many fans as the Ares has, I'm surprised more of them aren't looking for its predecessors!
