Is a Benchmade really worth all that money?

First off, after a solid week of 'hard work' manipulation (had to bandage up my index finger at one point to carry on) as in non-stop kind of practising. My $19.95 (£14) cheapy Bali has become really loose, the latch doesn't hold the handles together anymore and when open and held tight the blade can be moved with your fingers quite easly. Now even a newbie can see this isn't a good thing.

And I'm scared to manipulate it anymore just in case it breaks (and it will!) I can't be without a Bali!!!!
Ok, so I know its a cheap knife I have, but I did that on purpose so I could get a feel for the Balisong and decide if I really wanted a Benchmade.

And now all I can say is...... I WANT A BENCHMADE BALISONG!!!! :D

Question is: is it worth ALL that cash! The Benchmade 42 $150 (£104 for me). Now thats a hell of a lot of money for a student! Sure it looks like a great knife! But is it EVER gonna break on me or anything? Also whats the best Benchmade? Or is it just about preference? I've heard of loads of different models but I've got my eye on the BM42 at the moment. Thoughts, comments, surgestions, or anything else ya wanna add? feel free

Cheers..

Let me think about that for a second.... YES!!!

If my Benchmade where a minor, I would be thrown in jail for child abuse... but the thing just won't break. Countless impacts on cement, dust, dirt and crud. It really is worth every penny. If you save up to buy one, you WILL save money in the long run. Plus, you won't have to re-adjust it every 3 days until it finaly breaks.

You will go through 20 cheapies befor you go through 1 Benchmade Model 42. So you will spend at least $250.00 worth of cheapies before 1 Benchmade. Buy it you'll love it.

A Benchmade Bali-Song is worth every penny! These balisongs can take more abuse than any other balisong currently available.

As far as what model, Benchmade is currently producing three different models. They are the 42 (weehawk blade), the 43 (bowie blade) and the 47 (tanto blade).

Different people prefer different models because they all feel a little different. Just pick the one you like the best, and you will not be disapointed in its performance.

You can see some pictures and stats here.

BM's are in deed worth the $'s. I went through quite a few cheapies before I got my BM's. I have a 42 which is my favorite and daily flipper, haven't had to tighten the screws very much. I just got a 47 drop point tanto, which is just a bit heavier than the 42 and a little slower. But you can't go wrong with either ;)

YES!!!

And if you look around you should be able to find one for a good bit cheaper than $150...good luck!

WARRANTY, WARRANTY, WARRANTY, WARRANTY, WARRANTY, WARRANTY!!!!!!

How many times do I have to say this? If anything ever goes wrong, it will be fixed by Benchmade free of charge.

I was in the same place you were about a month ago Angel of Death. I still have my jag and the cheap china but it just doesnt stand up to the beating of my bm42a. I know about the money issue because I am only 15 years old. It toke me a little bit of time to save up but it was worth every penny i spent on it. It will last up to its reputation and exceeded it.:D (almost sure) As for the different modles, its all up to what you like. I decided to buy the 42a because that was everyones first benchmade bali.(besides the old ones)Take it from another student. ITS WORTH EVERY PRETTY PENNY ! I bought mine for $123.47 including sencond day air. Look back a bit and you can find it on one of my old threads.:D Good luck hunting.

I agree with Mykl Clark. :D

I only went through 2 Jag's before I got my 42, but they taught me a lesson: There are Volkswagons, and there are Ferrari's. Some might not agree that a BM 42, 43, or 47 isn't exactly a Ferrari, but you see where I'm going with this, right? :D

if you don't get a 42, I will hurt you ;)

It's easily the best knife I've ever owned. I haven't had a single problem with mine yet (one screw got a little loose, but I just put it right back in and was fine). It took me about 8 months to get the blade down to a semi-dull edge, but sharpening really isn't too much of an issue. You could just send it to BM and they'll fix you up, or you could just go to a Chesepeake knife and tool and they'll give you a scary-sharp edge for $3. Or just do it yourself.

Either way, it's gotta be a benchmade

Wow, thanks for all the replys guys much appreciated :)

Well, I don't need anymore convincing than that! BM 42 here I come!! And Besides, Darth Detori's is looking at in a rather persuasive way... heh :D
