Hello everyone,
I have planed to go to the us in July of this year...
I have seen this on the US CUSTOMS INFORMATION FOR NONRESIDENTS...
that the Switchblades are prohibited...

I have one benchmade 2550, and i like the knife a lot...my plan is to take out the spring of the 2550 and use it only as a button lock?

do you know something about it? will be a button lock also prohibited?

Thanks...

not "broken" just without the spring.. like some Boker Models... that are just button locks..

The odds are pretty good that they will recognize it as a knife that can be re-converted to auto. :thumbdn:

An auto is always an auto. The law makes no distinction for broken parts that I know of and it doesn't matter if you remove the spring on purpose to make it manual its still going to be considered a automatic. There are some exceptions for antiques and collectibles though depending on where and other exceptions for in transit travel to and from a show. Otherwise getting one through customs or from one state to another should you be found with it could be a tricky situation to say the least. If its old have a book to verify it in the car with you or a print out in your wallet maybe. Thats what some of the guys here do when traveling to a show with something otherwise illegal to have like an auto.
