Is a Leek illegal?

I recently bought an S30V G10 Kershaw Leek to give my dad as a gift.
He lives in NC and is coming tomorrow to visit.
I never really thought about it before, but after spending a little time reading the posts in this section of the forum, I'm reconsidering.
I can just see it now, my dad gets pulled over on his bike(routine stop), the cop eyes his Leek, asks to see it and as my dad is proudly telling him about the wonderful son who just bought it for him, the blade pops open and nicks the cops finger!

He's given me so many knives over the years with never so much as a "you'll poke your eye out if your not careful".
My, how the times have changed. Should I just give him a simple folder, a lengthy disclaimer, and a printout of his local knife laws?

Any thoughts?

It isn't illegal. But you might want to educate your dad on the differences between Assisted opening and Automatic knives. I think Automatics are legal in North Carolina, anyways.

- 14-269 (excerpts). Carrying concealed weapons. (a) It shall be
unlawful for any person, except when on his own premises,
willfully and intentionally to carry concealed about his
person any bowie knife, dirk, dagger... razor... or other
deadly weapon of like kind. This section does not apply to
an ordinary pocket knife carried in a closed position. As
used in this section, "ordinary pocket knife" means a
small knife, designed for carrying in a pocket or purse,
which has its cutting edge and point entirely enclosed by
its handle, and that may not be opened by a throwing,
explosive, or spring action...

So I suppose, as in most states, the law is open to interpretation...
The officer's interpretation.

Anyone else care to chime in?

my fight would be so:

don't conceal the knife. just the clip showing is considered unconcealed.

by that law...there is no specific length.

one could interpret that a bali is legal...as it says nothing of flipping or loose blades

I'm from NC and many of my friends carry a Chive or Leek. Most LE Officers are familiar with AOs and handle carefully should the need arise. Give your dad the knife and tell him to enjoy it.
