Is a scaled down Roling Lock possible?

Hi Bob (and all),

The new Pioneer is at the top of the "gotta have" list now, so I figured I'd ask this question now.

Since some makers (BM, Reeve) have smaller versions of models, do you forsee when a "lightweight" version of a model like the Pioneer is possble? I don't mean much smaller blade, but lighter liners, scales.

If you had all the time and resources you wanted, would a smaller scale rolling lock be doable, or would it be a crime against man and nature?
(If I have sinned by asking this, I apologize.)

Either way, the only really tough question now is: clip point or swept point, satin or black finish?
Thanks - John

John,

I guess I'll jump in.

REKAT/BobT makes no bones that he is producing knives and lock for HEAVY DUTY TACTICAL USE, i.e. defensive weapons.

Going smaller than the Pioneers 3.2' blade or thinner liners, or modifying the lock that results in a weaker mechanism would not enhance REKAT's niche in the market I don't think.

A smaller, lighter non liner lock knife can be had with BM's small Axis.

In answer to the really "tough question", I got the clip point and love it. But others love the tanto, the drop point, the upswept... Oh well, to each his/her own.

sing,

Thanks, your point is well taken. I agree the mark of a successful business is being able to find a niche in the market and be the best at it.

I guess what I'm thinking about is when there is a really great idea/design, can that design evolve and broaden its market appeal.
I have a Sebenza and a BM 710. These are great designs. However, right now, it seems the consensus is the REKAT Rolling Lock is the best, with no close rivals for strength.

That idea appeals to me and I wondered if it would be a logical progression to expand on an already successful concept. (This is becoming too academic!

) Anyway, I'm sure Bob has his hands full as it is.

And thanks for your input. I was leaning toward a clip point, I just didn't have anything like the swept.

We have a few smaller designs on the board but because of a very full plate and a backlog they won't make it this year. The Rolling Lock can fit any size knife within reason. That means no 1 inch blades.
