My question is specifically in regards to the sog pentagon which has a straight edge and on the spine of the knife there are serrations going up the hole blade except like an 8 th of an inch at the tip of the knife . So i know double edged knives are illegal in New Jersey but is the sog pentagon and or a regular saw or serration back knife legal???

I'm holding my pentagon right in my hand as I type this. It is a dagger, no bones about it. Don't matter if it's serrated on one edge, it has two sharp edges the entire length of the blade, and it was designed specifically for offensive use.

However, a saw-back is another matter. The NJ law never actually says "double edged" it just says "dagger." A saw back knife has one sharpened edge and actually wood-cutting saw teeth on the other. This is not the same thing, but then again, this has never been tested in court. NJ law is notoriously vague and contains virtually no guarantee of lawful carry for any knife, much less a large fixed blade.
