Is anyone else here into airsoft?

Just wondering if I'm alone in this. If anyone is, post what kind of equipment you have.

Well... define 'into'... Me and several of guys at work have some, tend to ambush each other and use them for training. I have some cheapo rifle (Well g8 maybe???) and a cheapo c02 pistol. There is talk of organizing some 'meets' here this summer, and if that happens I'll probably get a TM or Classic Army. The one I have now isn't up to any sort of competition.

I'll second the paintball notion. Whether its a game of woodsball between freinds or a hardcore speedball tourney, you can't go wrong!

I used to ambush buddies with a mp5-sd full auto airsoft rifle. I will agree paintball is way better. Airsoft is what I would train kids with before letting them have a bb gun or play paintball.

Airsoft can be used in the house. It's fun. It's cheap. And it doesn't leave paint marks on the cat! :)

(just kidding about the cat.)

Very very true. Did you know a cat can jump about 3' in the air from a dead standstill when with one of those pellets.

I hate paintball. Airsoft is all about getting as close to the real thing as possible, right down to squads that follow real tactics and using real looking guns with similar characteristics. For example, my CA M15 weighs the same as a real M4 would, and has the same metal parts that the real gun has.

I would also kill my cat if I shot it most likely.

I like the fact that airsoft is a little more... discreet, especially when horsing around at work. A fella here built a paintball arena and hosts tourneys, but I have yet to participate. A group of the city officers got together here and formed a team for the last one, and got their tails kicked by a bunch of 10 year olds. I think it looks like a blast. But as for the airsoft, we originally got them for training in building clearing and such (I serve as a field training officer) while on duty... the goofing off only came later.

Yeah airsoft is very close close to the real thing minus recoil and other things of that nature.

I forgot to say exactly what I have. I have the Classic Army M15A4 Carbine and a red dot scope on it. Here's a picture.

The only way they come close to real is in looks. 50 yard maximum range really sucks. I shoot my bushmaster (the real thing) at over 500 yds. For house clearing training they make sense.

I never said they were anything like the real thing aside from looks and feel, of course it's not a comparison. It's a hell of a lot closer than a paintball gun is and a lot easier to use than the real thing, which is why it's fun.

I have done both.....paintball rules. My Airsoft MP5 lookalike cost close to $400.00 after buying battery, charger, gun.... and the pellets go everywhere inside the house, so that sort of makes that a non issue, got tired to the vacuum cleaner rattling.

Have a nicely modded A5 Tippmann which, besides the hopper, looks about as close as you can practically get, and the "games" are a lot of fun. Each to his/her own.

Actually Real Action Marker (RAM) is the closest to the real thing. That's what's used in reality to train in cqb tactics by SWAT and other LEO and military tactical units, and executive protection training.

I had a bit of interest from some RAM groups, aisofters and military re-enactor groups to rent the use of my property.

Used to be into it when I lived in Indonesia. I had a 1911a1 with a reciprocating slide and removable magazine and a Colt Python that where you put the pellets into removable .357 shells. Both were charged with gas and were a lot of fun but I find that they break too easily. My .45 went to repair two times in a year and my .357 is broken.
