Reluctantly, I went to a flea market in Royal Oak,Mi. today. If I collected old ladies jewelery,it would have been hog heaven.I went outside to smoke and see if there was a place to get a cold one nearby. While I was appraising the situation, this guy had a box of knives that I started looking at.That's where I found this knife. It has a tang stamp saying SCHRADE WALDEN NY USA 136,the blade has writing on it about skinning and scraping copper wire. The only marks on it appear to be on the wooden handles from banging around, even those are minor. The guy wanted $10.00 for it and that's what I gave him.My question is, was this a good deal or are there a zillion of those things out there?Nobody seems to collect hawkbills.Any comments would be appreciated.

They are collectible it seems that lately they are commanding more money, when a few years ago some seemed passed them by for knives with more character, times have changed of late. Here are my three, plus another variation on the theme.

I think you got a pretty good deal, from the sounds of it. I've become a bit interested in them as of late, and have been on the lookout for another one or two. The blade etch has pretty much worn off mine. Rusty's look great. Here is a link to a recent thread showing one I got from ebay and sent out for some work.

Thanks, guys. The pictures from Rusty1 were fantastic. After cleaning it up with my special compound of Slim Jim grease and cheese popcorn residue on a terrycloth towel, this baby looks like new.
