I recently bought a very nice hunting knife by Clyde Fisher. I know that 20 or 30 years ago he was considered one of the rising stars of knifemaking. I haven't seen anything about him lately. Is he still around? Anyone know anything else about his work?

Sorry about the above post.
I have known Clyde for many years.
He had a stroke a number of years ago and as a result has limited useage of one side.
However
Clyde taught himself to make knives again. They are not as pretty or as well finished as they used to be. His knives are a lot like him. They are rough around the edges and works like a son of a gun. He used L6 for the blades.
He will be teaching a demo at the ABS Spring hammer-in at the end of this month. He is teaching afordable folding hunters there. He will have about 6 for sale at that time.
He makes these things with basically one hand. I like to buy his knives because I like and respect him for not just sitting down and waiting. He is pushing himself hard to go on. I like that attitude.
Clyde is deeper into pistols now than knives but he still does kick out some. If anybody wants me to pick them one up at the doings just let me know.

Hey Fisk,
Thanks for the info. Please let Mr. Fisher know that I recently bought one of his classic hunters from a purveyor and that it is a really beautiful piece that feels very good in the hand. I admire his efforts to not let the disability keep him down and wish him well.

I never had the honor of meeting Mr. Fisher or the pleasure of owning one of his knives. But I do remember seeing his work years ago. Clean, practical, beautiful pieces. I particularly recall drooling over (not on)
some of his drop points. I'm glad to hear he's still around and pluggin' away. I admire him for not resting on his laurels; Considering the contributions he has made to the world of cutlery, he could kick back with a clear conscience.

Fischer (with a "c"), Clyde E. Fischer.
Not only still makes knives and custom Contender pistols, but took a 165 B&C buck (with a pistol) that won several contests this last season, including the Muy Grande--a revered south Texas tradition. He may be a one-armed man, but he's still more man than most.

I own a Clyde Fisher "Rio Grande Skinner" he made about 30 years ago. I recently saw another one sell on ebay for $250. I spoke with the buyer who claims Clyde is still making knives and lives in either LaGrange or Gonzalez Texas. Both are 50-60 miles from here. I'll let ya'll know if I find out anything else.
