Is anyone riding a Triumph?

I really like the looks of the Thunderbird and have read some positive things, besides the "plain jane" styling, does anyone ride one?

My last bike was a Yammie Fizzer 1000 '94 but I haven't ridden since movin to SoCal in 2003 so I want somethin laid back.

I don't own one but I have heard that it is company policy to allow test rides on any of their bikes. Even if you aren't sure, it would be worth trying one out.

I have been drooling over the Daytona 675 and the triple.
 
If I got a Triumph it would be a Scrambler.

Approach with caution. I have a friend that has two and the electrical system can be a PITA. Granted one is older (Lucas barf..), but the new street triple doesnt seem to be much better unfortunately. Great bike when its running top notch though. my god, with a proper exhaust it sounds like heaven
 
Kinda' collect vintage 750 Bonnevilles, two '77's and a '78.
Parts are interchangeable.

That bike of yours is nicer than the one in the movie bro. I will test riding some in Brea this weekend, hopefully they have the Thunderbird, Speedmaster and Thruxton in stock.

The Fazer bikes were/are pretty decent as to acceleration and handling. The Thunderbird is not as good in these areas.
 
A friend of mine got a Thunderbird back around '99 or '00 when I got my Super Glide. We rode the heck out of them the first few years we had them and then I went and got married, sold it (the bike) for funds, etc. He still rides it and hasn't really had too many problems with it EXCEPT for when he first got it.

We were heading down to Deals Gap from OH and about 500 miles out, the bottom part of the spark plug, for some reason, broke off in the cylinder and caused quite a bit of grief for us. It was still under warranty so we U-Hauled the bikes home and I do remember him complaining about the turn-around time as some part had to come from overseas. This has been the only gripe from him that I have heard about and I think he's getting close to 40K on it. He has the louder "megaphone" exhaust on it which most of the time was louder than my glide. Hope this helps some.

BTW- Back before I got my DL, (1985-86) I was using my Dad's Bonny to go back and forth to football practice. We lived in a rural area and was quite familiar with cycles having dirtbikes and such. That's one bike I sure do miss.

My very first bike (in the early 70's) was a beat up old Triumph Tiger, 500cc. No electric starter, gear shift lever on the right side and break pedal on the left. The damn thing leaked oil everywhere, and I'd swear it even leaked out of the spokes! Couldn't keep the headlight working for more than a week at a time... I had to buy special sized tools just to work on it. It didn't use metric or Imperial! I LOVED THAT BIKE!!!!

These days I ride an 1100cc cruiser, but I'd rather be riding that Tiger! If I could buy that bike today, I'd sell off my first born child if needed just to raise the funds!

I first started riding back around then... Mid 70s. The local dealer carried Honda, BSA, and Triumph.
When you went into the store, under each piece of British iron was a prominent puddle of oil....
None under the Hondas.... Things to come. Honda had just come out with the "450", the 10,000 rpm torsion-spring valvespring-dual-overhead-cam wonder....
The dealer told me they took a bunch of bikes to the local dragstrip and the Honda was beating all the bigger British numbers.
 
I don't know about the Thunderbird, but I've owned three Tigers, a 95 and two 2005's. The Triumphs of today are nothing like the bikes of old. I'm not saying that someone hasn't had any problems with the current bikes (what brand doesn't), but I never had a issue with either one of mine.

Personally, I don't care for the looks of the T-bird but if you like it, go take a test ride and see if you feel it.
 
I thought that Triumph solved their electrical problems years ago by switching stock suppliers... I know that the oil delivery problems have pretty much gone aways these days. I was looking at the Thunderbird at a bike show here, and with the double touring seat on it, makes for a nice bike! I need a cruiser these days as my knees don't bend enough for a crotch rocket or even a sport bike, and the Thunderbird's size and price is a very nice selling point.
