Does anybody know if AUS8 is considered a Supersteel for sharpening purposes? I'm planning to sharpen Trident folder and Seal Team fixed blade. Thank you

Certainly not a super steel, but a good budget steel. Not sure what you mean by sharpening purposes, but I have found AUS8 to be one of the easiest steels to sharpen and it holds a decent edge.

During a different discussion about me purchasing Arkansas stones, another member cautioned about using them with supersteels. Thank you, jstn, for letting me know AUS8 is not a supersteel.

Those are the generally accepted grade of commonly used stainless steels, from budget to more expensive. You shouldn't have a problem with any of those on your stones. Super steels are things like M390, M4, etc. Even D2 can be a pain to sharpen.

Yes, not a super steel but great budget steel. Also, the heat treat is important. I find that SOG does a good HT on Aus8.

Good point, craytab. "Great budget steel" (stood up to Seal's tests) that can be sharpened with standard stones, certainly fits my needs. I really like my SOG knives.
