Is benchmade trying to build their knives all in house and get rid of designers?

Still would be interested to here thoughts since they are canning old designs that are really good like the 710, 707 some Bob lum designs and barrages. They are only coming out with designs that are made in house now if you've looked at all their blades they don't have designers names.

Well obviously Lum and Osborne (Rest in Peace) can't design for them anymore and many others have their own brands and other maker collaborations. Besides there are many good in house designs. Maybe they just want to give their own designers more free reign and be more self sufficient. Either way, I think they're doing alright.

There are no plans to exclusively use in house designs at this time.

I'm curious of the business plan of BMKC and what their vision is for future knives. With the discontinuation of the H&K line and the addition of the Hunt series, I wonder what demographics they will target new models towards.

The H&K line was a variation of a tactical line which they already have with their Black Class of knives. The Hunt line is a reinvention of the Bone Collector series (not saying it's a copycat but that it's targeting the same demographic; hunters).

I don't know. Although I could be way off, I thought that the H&K line spanned more value options when compared to the BM black class. I also thought that the Hunt series was more related to their acquisition of Lone Wolf, although I'm sure the Bone Collector weighed in.

IMO, this means a slight change in demographics to people willing to pay more. I'm not berating the company at all, as I believe that is a valid strategy, and there was a lot of competition at the lower price range. This also makes me wonder if the newer offerings in the black class and hunt series will move towards fancier higher end knives, lower priced/high value knives, or both in those classes.

For example, I would assume that many actually employed in jobs that benefit from the black class, might not pony up so much for a working knife (non-knife enthusiasts). I have similar assumptions for the majority of hunters whom the Hunt class targets. Again, not a negative, but I'm curious of the direction/vision for the future.
