do knives develop blade play over time, or should they always stay tight? i've got a peanut that has some wobble now, and i don't remember it being that way when i bought it. i haven't done anything stupid with it to cause this. mainly just opening mail and cutting up apples. if it's not normal i'm going to send it back to case for repair.

Uhm.... It's normal to a point. Excessive blade play is not good, but slippies do develop a little over time. Parts wear a bit, space develops between blade and side of handle.... it happens. Again, if it isn't TOO bad, it shouldn't affect the function of the knife. You can tap the handles with a mallet to tighten it up a little, but I wouldn't worry about it. I use to obssess over blade wobble, but aa little wobble doesn't bother me anymore.

i had the smae question a while ago, but what I've come to realize is tha a certain amount of blade play is normal, and in no way effects the performance of the knife..unless it's ridiculous I wouldn't worry about it.

Yeah, pretty normal. I even preffer a knife to have a wee bit of play, lets the oil flush out the dirt when you clean and lube it. Because of the nature of the beast, a little wobble does not affect a slip joint at all in function.

It's probably inevitable with long use, but I get incensed if I get a NEW knife, particularly a so-called premium brand with blade wobble, because if it has it new it will only get worse (or passed on...)

I've given alot of knives with a little wobble away to the less discerning, who care for there knives much less than I do (many I wished I had back) I see these folks years later reach into there pocket for a knife and pull out the one I gave them and I realize wobble is not a death sentence.. just a part of owning a folder..any slipjoint or lockback knife I've ever owned with the exception of victorinox products has at least some (allbeit small) amount of blade play...If your not prying with it, it shouldn't matter. If you are prying with it than wobble is the least of your worries.
