Is Bladeforums a DDR, Sebenza or TNT fan club?

Ok...don't start the flames flying. This post is partially in jest. However...it does seem these knives and knifemakers get talked about a lot on Bladeforums. So which is it? Does the forum as a whole lean toward CRK and his Sebenza, DDR and his EDC and Apogee, or good ole Tom Mayo and the TNT?

I am sure everyone who has read all those "GOT My TNT", "I found the Answer", and "DDR is god" threads has an opinion on this one.

I see why people think the Kit Carson #4 is best.

I have had a small Sebenza for almost two years and I don't want anything else for every day carry; this knive can't be beat.

Tom (TNT) makes a great knife, but I think it's about $100 more than a Sebenza.

Part of the answer is that they all make great knives and they are active on these forums. Of the group you mention I only own a Tom Mayo TNT and it is a great knife. In addition, he is a really good guy and I enjoy interacting with him. That is why I am a repeat customer of his.

Rick, it is worth the additional $100 ;)

edit I also own a couple of sebenzas and they are very nice, but they are not in the same league as a well made custom

I have tried the Sebbie and didn't like it...

Looked at Darrel's stuff and considered it, but never convinced myself I had to have one...

Waiting patiently on my TNT... From the one's I have seen and handled I can't imagine that I won't join up with this group

I do not own any of the above mentioned knives, BUT it is only a matter of time. I guess if you got the knife bug as bad as I, as my collection grows and I learn, I will NEVER know until I have carried a sebenza, DDR and a TNT as an EDC. IMO, as my tastes "mature" and my collection "matures", not owning and using them will always leave me wondering, so it is just an issue of WHEN for me.......wolf;)

Forum members can be passionate about their 'personal' favority maker.

Makers who make themselves available on-line are more apt to have a fan club because of the interaction they have with that maker. Making a good quality knife and going to shows that forum members attend furthers the passion about that maker's knives.

It is a sad fact that many knife makers have quit participating on public forums like this one because the exchanges became hostile and inflammatory for no reason other then to stir things up and cause trouble on-line. A good knifemaker has better things to do then argue on-line with a teenager who doesn't really know what they are talking about.

Personally, these makers have earned their 'fan club' for good reasons. There are a few others that you have left out including but not limited to: Geno Denning; Bob Dozier, Trace Rinaldi and, Kit Carson to name just a few. This makers may not be on-line much but, have very passionate fan clubs of their own.

I have knives from all three -- and this forum is the only reason. I'm relatively new to high-end knives. Learning as I go. There is so much passion and knowledge on this forum that it's contagious. I figure that if so many people swear by these three makers, then there must be something "to it." I haven't been disappointed yet!

Hey, give the little guys a chance:D

Hey Pat, I'm a fan of your work and I don't own a knife from you yet. I first became aware of your work at Blade Show when Kit Carson said, "Hey you have to go look at this guys work." That was before you won, "Best New Maker". ;)

That's all a part of why the makers mentioned here have such a strong following, it's not just the knives they make it's the kind of people they are. Willingness to share their knowledge and time with the folks here. What I mean is they give of themselves and that adds to the value of their knives. You can get to know the makers that post here and build a friendship, and there's nothing better than to own a knife that a friend made.

Some of the friends here whose knives I own;
Darrel Ralph
Kit Carson
Max Burnett
Mike Cooper
Ed Fowler
Art Washburn

Personally I like all three. I have owned at one time or another a knife from DDR and CRK and they were both fine knives.

My taste has changed to custom fixed blade knives and my favorite maker is Ed Fowler.

When you have the presence on the forums that the three you mentioned have, then you are going to find a lot of members that own and post about their knives. That is just natural.

If I could go where legal blade length is not an issue, the StarMate would be my permanent EDC blade. I am not familiar with the Tom Mayo EDC, but I have handled a number of Sebenzas and I find that the StarMate is every bit as good a knife at 1/3 the price. It just does not have quite as fine detail work or the same level of status appeal.

First off, I couldn't express myself any better than Sid Post did. Kudos to ya Sid! I own multiple products from CR, DDR and TM. They each are exceptional in their own right. Are other makers and manufacturers making quality knives. Of course they are. This is a pretty democratic place, and the ones with the best product and service will get the most mention. One thing in common with all three is outstanding customer service. GenO, Kit Carson and Bob Terzuola also belong in this group.
I have noticed that when a thread starts off commenting about flames, somehow a little flaming is intended by the author. I hope we can rise above that, as this thread has done so far.Thanks.

They make three of the finest folders available. Their popularity here is no accident. But you can hardly say the whole forum leans toward them and them alone. There is always the Outlaw Mad Dog Posse! ;)

I have a small regular Sebenza. Next up is the small classic. Then I'll start working towards an Apogee and TnT of like size. These three, IMO, are the finest folder designs out there.

Pretty good knives and people represented in that list and I am a fan of all three (people and knives).
I am also a fan of at least 100 more :D.
