Right now, I'm on a Benchmade kick, and I just can't stop myself! In fact, I haven't really been considering much else lately; just looking for the next Benchmade!

Can you go too far with one brand of knife? How did you stop your addiction?

Simple, i ran out of knifes to buy and the company wasn't making anything new, sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear. hehe

The only other way i believe is to find a other brand you like more or dare i say it some else besides knifes. LOL

Good Luck!

I read a review of really good results from a really cheap knife here and then read Fred and Nemo's review of the Schrade Sharpfinger and Wolverine and it made me realize that I could meet and even exceed my cutting tool demands without laying out a lot of dough.

If it doesn't help your addiction, maybe it will at least help you save up for the 710 with S30V and carbon-fiber scales.

Hi 2smrt, brand loyalty is not a bad thing, and it is what a manufacturer would hopes to achieve. Let it not close your mind.

A manufacturer must earn brand loyalty by providing whatever the particular customer base desires. If the offering is consistancy in a conservative theme, but with interesting variation, then you might enjoy Case brand. If unbreakable folders, then Stryder could keep you busy.

At Spyderco, our offering is innovation, quality and reliable high performance. Our customers expect this of us. We must keep our customers interest formost. If we deviate from this theme, they might lose interst. I think you will find the many different companies have different offerings.

Also keep in mind, knife interest is not a marriage and more than one company might catch your interest.

If I may paraphrase a quote:

"The race is never over.
Even if you prepare and win today, you must again prepare to win for tomorrow".

A manufacturers answer to your very astute question.

As a spyderco freak I know all about brand loyalty, I've never left a store without ordering, handeling or buying spyderco. But as I was looking for something spyderco doesn't carry that much, a folding Tanto blade, I had a look at SOG's Vision series. I bought an X-ray vision which is now part of my EDC (together with a SE SS police or if I'm discreet an aluminun handle navigator and a CE spydercard). Just to say if I just didn't have a look at SOG I'd have missed out on an excellent knife in a style my brand doesn't supply (except the Lum which I ordered). I'd say go ahaed look beyond your favorite brand it's not that this is a no return thing ;)

Hope this was helpful.

brand loyalty can be as bad as believing that you know all there is about
a subject. When there is nothing more to learn , explore , or enjoy then life
can get really dull.

So look around at everything ............and enjoy it all!!:D :D

I carry 2 BMs (710, 806), one slim Buck lockback, and a Spyderco Ladybug on daily basis. I'm not really into brand loyalty. I find many other BMs, Bucks, and Spydercos to be quite ugly and impractical for my purposes. My purchases are more dictated by features and qualities (e.g. handle material/shape, blade steel/shape/size, edge type, locking system type, intended usage, COST, etc) of knives than brand name.

Lately I've been on a spyderco kick especilly the wegner designs ie
mouse and large wegner now if I could just find that wegner jr plain blade.I could think about getting a griptilian from benchmade.

Last reply before the fat guy in the red suit shows up,(I hate when the guy next door gets drunk and puts that suit on):D

This is a great question, I believe ya buy what works, and what ya can afford, but ya shouldn't let blind loyalty influence your buying habits. If that were the case than none of the current Tacticals or blade materials would never ever be available.

We'd all still be using slip joints with carbon steel blades, not that there's anything wrong with that. :) :D

Just make sure that you don't get loyal to the High End Brands!! Like some of these guys that only buy Mayos. It's great if your wallet can hack it, otherwise I imagine it can be a real bummer.:) Personally I just buy what catches my eye. My taste have spanned out to about 7 brands now and I am getting ready to make it 8 with some William Henrys looking like they may be added to the list

Heh, Benchmade is about as high end of an addiction as I can manage!

What is scary is now that I got my Swamp Rat, I want a Busse!
