Is Buck's Washita Stone an adequate sharpening stone?

It is a low grade Washita. Check out Dan's Arkansas stones, or look at Norton stones. I'd recommend a good quality Norton fine India stone - if you get a combination stone, then you will be set if you follow the fine stone with a strop. If you want an even finer edge than you get from the fine India, get a Norton hard Arkansas stone, or a less expensive one from Dan's, like their white hard Arkansas for a finish stone.

600 grit will put a shaving sharp edge, but not a scary sharp edge, i have a dmt aligner with stones that go up to 8000 mesh(3 micron) then i strop with chromium oxide. You will probably need a few more stones for reprofiling and further refining your blade.

More specifically is it adequate for sharpening 13C26 Sandvik. What about for S30V steel? I'm looking to put a "scary sharp" edge on either. Buck's site says it's Fine 600 grit. Thanks for ur input. http://www.buckknives.com/index.cfm?event=product.detail&ProductID=3031

Yes, a Washita will do a good job on 13C26. That alloy does not have carbides, so the Washita will work just fine. I find 13C26 to be no more difficult to sharpen than 420HC.

I'd use an aluminum oxide stone or a DMT diamond stone for the S30V. My favorite aluminum oxide stone is a two sided Norton India stone, but a Sharpmaker works well also.

Thanks knarfeng. With my $70 credit from Buck I think I'm going to get the S30V Vantage and keep it sharp with your recommended (and affordable) Norton India Stone fine/coarse combo. It will be my only blade (for now) and I want to take good care of it. It also seems like a great stone to keep my kitchen cutlery nice and sharp.
