As probably the best SS out there now is it suitable for the blade over 10" ? Or is it to brittle to baton on ? How tough the steel really is? That is my question.
CPM 154 or 154CM. It's a good steel, though I have no experience with either in a fixed blade. I have a folder in ATS-34 (similar to 154CM) that's 15 years old and I have beat the living shit out of it, and it just comes back for more. You should be fine, its not a particularly brittle steel like some others out there. Just makes sure the blade is nice and thick.
CPM154 has increased toughness and wear resistance over D2 at similar hardness. Its a great choice, and one of the tough stainless steels around. I would be surprised if it were tougher than 1095 when both are run at 58-60hrc.
From my uses CPM-154 is better than CPM-D2 in every category. Better wear resistance (edc tasks), tougher, easier to sharpen, takes a keener edge, and lord knows its more stain resistant.
