Is CRK discontinuing the pivot system, and should we start buying all the reg and 21s

Hi I have noticed in the 25s there is no pivot like the 21s or the regular sebenzas. Does this mean that Chris Reeve is discontinuing the pivot system? I have never owned a Chris reeve with the new system, how does the new system compare with the old? Does this mean that everyone is going to buy off the older versions. I personally think that the old system with the pivot is easy to clean. simplicity is what made a Chris Reeve so unique. I know it might take a while but when they discontinued the Regulars, it is not impossible but is very hard to find one today. It took me 3 years to find a bg42 large regular. I also like the hollow grind blade of the older CRKs, now is a flat grind. what do you guys think

I don't know if it means that we'll never see a bushing pivot on another CRK ever again, but I think it marks a transition for CRK. However, the new pivot isn't necessarily a bad thing. Even though I'm a fan of the bushing pivot system, the new pivot found on the 25 does allow for more user customization, allowing each individual user to tighten or loosen the pivot depending on how they like it. I think there will still be a place in everyone's hearts for the regulars and the 21's, but I'm a fan of many of the changes presented in the 25.

Last I heard, Chris had not even designed a small 25 yet. So that mean the bushing system is alive and well for the time being. The pivot is not a breaking point for me either way, so it doesn't really matter to me.

Both the pivot bushing and the flat-contact lock tab are expensive and labor intensive to manufacture in mass, especially with the quality standards CRK demands. The Umnumzaan and the 25 solve these problems in their innovative designs and, in my mind, represent Chris' future intentions. Everyone will decide for themselves where to put their money, but when all else is equal I go with the 21's and older models.

Agree. Love my two Umnus, and they are great knives, but the Sebenza is unique.

What he said.

I miss the pivot bushing on my 25.

I don't consider a free swinging blade "smooth", I know that's what a lot of people call it. To me "smooth" is the feeling of a blade traveling its arc uninterrupted by grittyness or stiction. In that sense my 25 is as smooth as they come. It doesn't have the "hydraulic" liquid feel that my other Sebenzas had however. I also miss the hollow grind and most of all, the lanyard bar, but the new features make the new knife extremely good. It's absolutely deserving of the Sebenza name imo.

Will the pivot bushing faze out? I'd be very surprised if it didn't. It just doesn't make sense for them to use the new design on their flagship model (and yes, I consider the 25 to be the flagship) yet continue to use the bushing elsewhere. I don't see a regular pivot (have we come up with a name for it yet?) 21 either. I think the 21 will go away eventually, although I'll be sad when that happens.

Of course I'm fairly new to CRK so my thoughts are just that. I hope I'm wrong!

No plans on discontinuing the 21 anytime soon from my resources. And they are pretty strong!

Not once since the 25 was announced had I actually considered the possibility the 21 would be discontinued. Dang, that's a sad thought. Variety is the spice of life.
