Is everything in S30V now, from Benchmade

I kind of liked 154CM.
I will be honest, I haven't bought a Benchmade in a while. The last was a M390 Ritter.

I think a few older models, like the 530/531 and maybe a couple others are still in 154CM. I suspect any of those models that aren't discontinued soonish though will be upgraded to S30V. I know that Benchmade is making that their new base model/entry level steel.

More or less I expect that what we'll see in the years immediately ahead is S30V in base models, 20CV in premium models, and occasionally an M4 editon (like the Super Freek) thrown in. Maybe more coated M4 in the Black Class models. That wouldn't surprise me.

S30V plus that 40 dollar butterfly tax.

I also like 154cm. But I guess that's just the way with steels. I'm sure in another 15 years their base steel will be 20cv.

It seems like most of the newer Benchmade deliveries are in S30V, with a little 20CV thrown in for good measure. In my humble opinion, they've changed their base blade steel.

Think of it as a we will do damn near anything to make you happy tax. Doesn't seem so out of line to me considering.

^Exactly. I'm not sure why this concept is so hard to understand and is made fun of by some.

I'm glad to see an upgrade from 154cm as a baseline steel with no significant price increase for a grip (no significant price increase considering the normal yearly increases). I'd rather have a better steel like s35vn and I wish they had done this sooner but this is a step in the right direction from a great company. Benchmade bashers are always out there (just like with any of the top manufacturers). Ignore the noisy insults. The truth is generally right in between of the haters and fanboys, though the haters are far more loud.

5, 10, 20 yrs just rename the steels in use today and charge just a bit more.
I can tell the difference between 154cm and s30v with use and sharpening. If you can't then maybe premium knives aren't for you. Just buy gas station crap.

To be fair, if the knife is made how it's supposed to be, they wont have to do anything extra.

I'm waiting for the day we have 90 dollar grips with 20cv and carbon fiber. I'm sure the older folk that didn't have super steels must be losing their minds when you compare today with 30 years ago.

Every manufacturer will send out lemons. Does BM have a recent history of sending out some? Yes. Undeniable. That said, I haven't got one. By all accounts most haven't gotten one. And by all accounts most that have gotten one have gotten it fixed.

That aside, actual warranty issues are fixed better than most companies. They'll overhaul your knife for free. Send out parts and clips. Replace blades at a fraction of the price for new. Fix things if you mess them up. Bitch about benchmade all you want but if you look at it objectively you will see the value.

I'll concede the QC issues, but that wasn't my point. Lifesharp, hardware, cheap reblading, and all the other stuff they're willing to do. I won't guess what they spend on that, but I'm sure it's significant. QC issues aside, the customer service, and what they'll do for customer satisfaction is amazing, and hard to find. That's worth something imo

When i was stocking up on Benchmades years ago the most I had to pay was maybe $150, but for the most part I was paying about a buck twenny five. I moved on to ZT, and it seemed that in no time Benchmades were pulling in 2 bills or more. I bought both the mini and full size Crooked River at those prices, but compared to ZT I just can’t justify the price increase. I still remember when they made the MAP the law of the land.
