Hi there, I'm learning to do the no spin throw by Ralph Thorn and he say's that big knives are the best for throwing. Like 14" in length. I'm wondering if flying steel is a good place to buy some throwing knives though. Thanks

The largest knife I offer at the moment is 11.75" long, the Large Shurknife. I'll have a 15" wakizashi coming soon. If you google "flyingsteel knives" or "flyingsteel quality" you'll find at least one video review and some other relevant hits. My new site will have some testimonials. Thanks!

I co-designed the shur-knife on flyingsteel and have used Pat's knives for years, along with Bobby Branton's, and not much else. Pat's quality started high and has gotten higher.

It is as much the weight of the knife as the length that makes it easier to learn control but the high quality of knives like Branton's or Patrick's helps as well.

Would you suggest the shurknife for a begginer of your technique? If I remember right you said to have something heavy and long.

It's really all according to the individual. As a general rule I think heavier and/or longer is better but some people actually take well to smaller knives. Just experiment and see what works for you.

Heck yeah! Not only is it a good place, it's the ONLY place I get my knives!
Why buy a knife that will break the third time you throw it? Pat's knives are about as good as it gets IMO....however I really want to try Branton's throwers because I hear good things!
