Just got my new Vantage Avid today and noticed a bit of fore and aft play in the blade. I haven't cut anything with the knife yet...just playing around with it and checking it out. My experience with linerlocks has led me to assume that this condition will be agrevated by time and usage.
So far for me this is my third Vantage; #1 was paperstone small-returned to vendor after 1 day... opening got sticky/incomplete after only a short while of usage...
#2 Vantage pro-small absolutely perfect knife...even after hard usage lockup is tight and vault-like...no play at all.
#3 Vantage Avid large- I was very exited to get this one after my experience with my small pro... but my initial impression is not so resounding... though it is an impressive knife overall, I am a little dis-enchanted by this blade play issue.

If the place I bought it had them in boxes where I could take them out and work them, I'd just simply take it back. As for play, I've got 2 Vantages and neither one has any play.

Web ordered from Buck...I wish I knew a dealer close by...

I don't know what it is with Buck. I had to go through like 12 Large Bantums before I found one with a RELATIVELY centered blade, at Bass Pro. :thumbdn:Also, it is my only folder that does not deploy easily and has not loosened up with use. :thumbdn:I try to stay away from Buck and Sog because of their quality control issues. I won't tell you to return your knife to Buck.:D

I'm just going to send this one back for a refund. I'll buy another when I can check it out IN HAND...
Sorry about the gripe...I'll just lock this one down and let it go away.....

Giving the Vantages another go...:)

Some time has past, and this thread seemed stuck in the back of my mind.
Things on the forums don't just go away when they fade away to the back pages.
I have since aquired a few new Vantages and every one has been Perfect...
First was the Paradigm pro( I know...not really a Vantage ) But I digress...
I was really impressed by this model...it would be a great knife for anyone with dexterity problems with flippers...
Then the little 340 came along from a giveaway. Started carrying and using it a bit and really like it. Good grip, Centered when closed, action great right from the git go.
Decided to get the 345 Dymondwood in 420HC... Perfectly centered, great action, perfect all around...

The duds that were previously mentioned must have been old stock.... or a peculiar twist of luck...

Here's my flock of Vantages so far.....

I have two Vantages, one small and one large. Both are fine now. The large one is paperstone and I use a rubberized tape on the inside scale for more grip when I pull it. The small is an Avid with Dymondwood and was off center a bit. I loosened all screws and tweaked it 'til centered and now carry it edc.

SEMPER-FI TIL I DIE

I hear a lot about people tweaking these maladjusted plasticky tacktee-cools......and the question in my mind is--after tweaking, how long is it before they get out of adjustment again???

Or is the "fix" permanent?
