Is G10 up to the task?

Some knives have G-10 on one side and Ti on the other. The G-10 side is not a scale. It is the frame. Is it really up to the task? Do you trust it enough?

Of course...G10 is very tough and some of the most well known, tough, hard-use knives have G10 scales. Usually the blade will break before the scale would have a problem.

Yes. Just look at strider knives - some of the toughest folders in the game and half the knife is solid g10.

It's tough enough.
I like a liner, but it generally is not required. The blade usually breaks before the handle.

You probably are not aware that G10 is a Space Age material. It was developed and manufactured for critical components use and as a support material in space ships and military hardware.

Your hand will wear out, then the Ti before G10 shows any fatigue besides surface cosmetics. You will bend & break Ti before G10.

G10 use in knives, whether as the frame or just as scales, is well-within it's capabilities.

you'll break the blade and your hand before even coming close to harming your g10.

modern knife users seem to be under the impression that only heavy knives are strong knives, and that's really not the case.

We make airplane parts out of similar materials.

Like any other material, if you make it too thin, it won't be strong enough. Make it the right thickness and you're good to go.

Have you ever tried to cut and work with this stuff? It's extremely tough, I have never come slightly close to breaking even a thin peice of G10 and I use my knives fairly hard. Don't stress about this material, your safe with it.

Ive broken a few pieces of G10 just for testing purposes and its a really strong material. Even at 1/8th its very stout and has a high degree of flexibility.

Here is a great vid demonstrating the toughness of a knife made with a solid G10 handle and no steel liners.

G10 is extremely strong.

For testing purposes, I struck a 1/8" piece of G10 with a ball peen hammer repeatedly as hard as I could. The G10 was unharmed.

I've also seen a piece of 3/8" G10 stop a .45 ACP round.

I actually just got a G10 order today and started with some cutting with my cheap Craftsman bandsaw. This stuff is extremely hard to cut and it takes quite a bit to sand/grind. Again I can't imagine that you will have any problems with toughness.

Make sure you wear the proper mask. You don't want that dust in your lungs.

Thats what I was about to tell him just in case he didn't know. He probably did, but it never hurts to mention it.
