Is having Two 0302’s Bad??

To keep my ZT0350 company, last year I picked up a LNIB 0302. I carried it a couple of times in the beginning but since then it ends up spending a lot of time safely stored away. Just recently I noticed that someone was selling a “new” 0302 on another forum. The owner had died and his wife had hired his friend to sell off a number of items for her. It was a good price for a “new” one. I had a picture in my head of tucking away the “new” one and carrying and using the 1st one I bought. Well, the “new” one arrived and it’s not “new”. It has a few light scuff marks on the blade and the finish on the black Ti is lightly worn on some of the ridges. I’m probably making it sound worse than it is. It doesn’t look bad and you really only notice it if you look close. The provided pictures of it did not show these things. I actually thought that I had some freak of nature when I noticed a “0300” on the striped blade. I took a deep breath and realized that it was the serial number and not a mis-print of the model number… So my 0302 is serial number 0300. Too bad it’s not serial number 0302… Also the “disk” in the handle (torsion bar disk?) is a silver color where as my other one is black… I think that the black looks better and I do not know the history on each version.

The seller had asked me to email him when it arrived and to tell him what I thought of it. After politely telling him that it really shouldn’t have been considered “new” and that I couldn’t pick up on these things in the photos, he offered to refund my money after I return it to him. That was nice of him.

I’m not sure what to do. I’m not a collector and I bought the 1st one because I wanted one but then it seemed too nice to risk abusing it… I can put aside my original one and use this one as my EDC and not worry about abusing it... Or I can keep it and sell my LNIB (I have a possible layoff looming for me at my company)… Or I can just return it for a refund… (No offense to anyone here but I probably wouldn’t upgrade my membership just to be able to sell one knife here. If the layoff happens, that little extra money could come in handy.)

Any suggestions??

If you didn't really use the first one and probably won't use the second one even though it's ready to be a user, send it back for a refund if it's not as described and if you're positive the layoff will include you. That way you get some funds back and keep the like new one safe unless you absolutely must have it. Sounds like you wanted a new one and a beater so use that one as a beater if it was a good enough price. You could probably recoup the money even on a user depending on the price and their current rarity. Great find though. I hope you don't get laid off. Also, I can't recall if I've seen the lockbar disc in silver.

In response to your title, yes very bad. To remedy this, you should send it to me ASAP.

If you paid a lnib or nib price and it came used, then I would send it back right away. If it was cheap, I'd keep it as a user. I'm sort of the same way, I couldn't use my 300, until I bought a 301. If you think you wouldn't use it much, send it back.

The earlier ones had a silver LBS and higher contrast in the tiger-striping. If you got a good deal, I would keep it and use it, but that's just me. I buy knives to use them :)

You have to take into account that Kershaw will more than likely be making another run of 0302s, although at a higher price(due to MSRP increase) than when they were available before.

I wish I had your "problem". I have a like new without the box 0302 from July 07' that I just can't use yet. You could sell me your 0302 and I could use it.

My 0302 has a silver lock bar stop too.

you could probably sell it here and tack on the price of a gold membership to what you paid for it and everyone wins!
