I've been a big fan of backlock knives (I like the good blade retention they have personally), and I use them a lot at work. I've found the easiest way to close most of the ones I use is to use my index finger to depress the lock and then flick it closed like an axis lock knife is typically closed. I'm not an expert so I ask, is this bad for the knife to do this?

Do you notice any flat spots on the blade edge? Most should have a kick, which is a part that lets the blade tang rest when closed, and keeps the blade from hitting or resting on the back spring, causing flat spots on the blade's edge. The only thing I could think to be a problem would be if the blade is going closed really fast/hard, it would bounce and the edge hit the back spring. But if there are no flat edges, and you see no lines on the inside of the back springs, where the blade could be hitting, then I would say it is no more harmful than any other lock.

My EDC is a Seki City made Spyderco, it shouldn't be hitting the backspring when I close it.
